Network card (adapter) is a device designed to transfer information between several computers in a local network and also for PC connection with the world wide web. In essence, such devices are conventional Board with a microprocessor, a connector for the network conductor and ancillary hardware components. Depending on the connection type, there are external, internal, PCI , and built-in into the motherboard adapters.
External network cards are in great demand among consumers because of the real possibility of their connection to any PC via an interface USB. They are made in the form of an individual module is not dependent on the motherboard. This module has a number of protective features like built – in protective mechanism from lightning strikes, which has a connection to the Internet, even in adverse weather conditions. To establish the connection between the computer and the Internet and other machines on the network, you first need to download the drivers for the network cards.
Internal adapters are installed in a free PCIslot on the motherboard. They also require downloading a separate driver package before you begin. The most "undemanding" in operation are built-in adapters. They are the small chip soldered on the Board which does not require a search and installation of individual programs, as all necessary drivers for your network card are on the same disk with software for motherboard.
In addition to these types of network adapters there are Wi-Fi solutions. They connect to PC via network Wi-Fi: the network cable is attached to the cable Wi-Firouter, which when connected to the system via USB cable, transmits packet data on a PC.
Data transfer speed for this type of connection may vary, depending on the characteristics of the card and the router. For example, a Gigabit network adapters provide data transfer rate: 1000 MB/sec (if you have the Internet speed set by your ISP).
