DAS Promise Pegasus R4 Review

Data storage units have become an integral part of PC hardware in recent years. Such conjuncture is simply explained by the rising necessity to store huge amounts of information and transfer the data to various devices. NAS and DAS units have been developed with the intention to solve all storage problems, however, the efficiency of their work is much dependent on the interfaces they use for data transfer. USB 2.0 interfaces are unable to cope with voluminous info; the prevalent now USB 3.0 and eSATA interfaces are efficient only for a single winchester. But when it comes to the management of really huge data blocks, there appears a need for a more advanced solution. Promise Technology dares to solve all vital issues by releasing DAS Pegasus R4 with Thunderbolt interface which is notable for the high and stable data transfer speed with the retention of compatibility.

General Characteristics

DAS Promise Pegasus R4 series does not differ so much in design terms from other …

Arctic Releases Cooling System for AMD Graphic Adapters

Swiss manufacturer of cooling systems, Arctic Cooling, has recently released a new cooler developed specifically for graphic adapters from AMD. Earlier this year the company launched the cooling system which is compatible with graphic adapters from Nvidia developers. The new product, codenamed Accelero Hybrid 7970, distinguishes from its predecessor also by the foot of water block which is upgraded to be compatible with AMD HD 7900 series.

Cooling system Accelero Hybrid 7970 consists of two parts which boast as air, so water cooling standards. It is able to manage up to 320W of hot air. The water block is cooled down by the 120 mm fan which is able to achieve the speed in the measures of 400-1350 rpm. The block, that is installed on the board, is equipped with 80 mm fan and is able to achieve from 900 to 2000 rpm speed. The noise level is dwindled down to the minimal index.

Arctic representatives claim that their new water block is 200% more efficient than the nominal …

HPE Presented the Second Pilot Model of The Machine PC

In 2016, Hewlett Packard Enterprise revealed its first prototype of The Machine PC, utilizing the DRAM memory. Moreover, lately the company has presented the second pilot model. HPE показала второй прототип. The concept itself is called the Memory-Driven Computing, however, those are the developed ideas, involved into The Machine project.

The prototype supposes the presence of 160 TB memory, divided into 40 physical nodes, parsed together with the help of the high-end protocol. In addition, there are optical and optoelectronic connections. The whole system is operated by the optimized Linux based OS running on Cavium ThunderX2.

Taking into account the result obtained, HPE expects, that the architecture will be easily scalable up to 4.096 yottabytes! Thus, it will be able to handle incredible data arrays.

Unfortunately, it is anything but clear, when real Memory-Driven Computing devices will hit the market. However in 2018 or 2019 HPE is going to …
