ASUS ProArt 238Q Monitor Review

Laptops, tablets and mobile devices have deeply penetrated into the life of every person due to their versatility, convenience and functionality. It seems that desktops have yielded their positions in the market, but it’s only a visual assumption. Desktops still take a vast niche in the IT market and are the best fit for office needs. That is why, the selection of desktop components is of great importance, especially when we speak about monitors. Professional monitor ProArt 238Q from Asus developers has a huge performance potential and is able to satisfy the needs of individuals who are concerned with efficient accomplishment of any assignment.

Design and Framework

ASUS ProArt 238Q is characterized as professional monitor. This presupposes that its design and framework are not distinguished by excessive gloss, unusual forms or any additional accessories. Quite the contrary, everything here speaks of the class and destination of the monitor: it has a dark square frame with a thin red strip in the edging; The inner part of framework contains some metrical symbols: the top and right faces of the framework have inch scale divisions, while the bottom and left faces are ascribed to the centimeter scale divisions. The back board and the stand are made of plastic; the display is flat and dull. Upon the whole, the design is standard for the monitors of this class.

ProArt 238Q has an ergonomic framework that allows the users to find the most comfortable positions of monitor. The monitor adjustments are possible due to the tilt, pivot and swivel components which serve the lowering and lifting tools. The foot of it can be lifted up to 10 cm. height while the stamp can be adjusted to the bookish position. The foot has a metallic base which ensures the durability of the construction.

Moreover, ProArt 238Q has been designed with the efficient usability in mind. Thereby, the monitor goes with good connectivity tools. The left face is equipped with two USB 2.0 ports; all other sockets, along with the power slot, are localized on the back face: HDMI, DVI, D-sub, DisplayPort. The availability of HDMI socket is considered to be rather advantageous as it provides for the connectivity with any modern game console or HD-payer.

The initial delivery set of ASUS ProArt 238Q includes user manual, power unit, support disk, cable tie, and DVI, VGA, USB, DisplayPort cables.

Technical Peculiarities

The following monitor specifications serve the proof of its professional class:
— Display. Panel type: IPS; resolution: 1920x1080; response time: 6 ms; brightness: 250 cd.
— Power consumption. Operational mode — 33 W, off-mode – 0 W, saving mode – 1 W.
— Video specifications: HDCP support, picture-in(by)-picture, trace free properties; options: color and gamma adjustment.

Image Quality

ASUS ProArt 238Q uses IPS panel type which exceeds other monitors which use TN-technologies. IPS was intended to extend the viewing angles (which currently equal to 178° H/178° V), reduce the color distortion and other defects. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that this monitor is based on the simplified version e-IPS with 6 bits per channel. Despite this fact, all gradients are displayed quite smoothly due to the 10 bits LUT table.

The only imperfection that can be mentioned about this monitor is the availability of the overexposure in the top right angle. It becomes especially visible on the dark background. Irrespective of this imperfection, the monitor ‘protects the eyes of users’ thanks to the high frequency highlight.

To continue, TraceFree panel overclocking option enables the adjustment of response time. The user is able to choose among six gradation levels: without overclocking, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100. Test records showed that 40 is the most optimal gradation level for sufficient image performance. The overall impression of the image quality gives the go-ahead to the film view, game playing and work with graphic material.

Control Options

All standard control keys are located in the bottom-right part of the frame. One can find the following quick settings which are accessed out of the extensive menu: color contrast and intensity switch, display benchmarking, display mode, video input way. Upon the whole, there are 5 available modes which embrace standard, landscape, sRGB, user (which has manual settings), and theatrical.
The main menu contains 6 sections which enable the implementation of the basic monitor functions, such as display mode selection, color and image adjustment, and other instruments.
