PSU Enermax Revolution87+ 750W Review

This year has become rather successful for Enermax, a well-known manufacturer of power supply units. The company supplemented its product lines with six series combined into four major groups: entry-level, athlete, royal, and gold class. Revolution87+ series belongs to the Gold Class group and involves five models (from 550W to 1000W power). Model Revolution87+ 750W is distinguished not only by the availability of 80Plus Gold certificate, but also by an original branded platform developed by Enermax specifically for this series.

Features

Enermax has implemented a few striking technical solutions in its Revolution87+ 750W power supply unit. The first attractive feature is a composite control over the main inverter. The control is realized by traditional pulse-width modulation method, as well as by simultaneous involvement of pulse-frequency modulation (the combination of width and frequency in control process).

Upon the whole, this PSU model is able to demonstrate up to 744W power on +12VDC bus efficiency. Such index automatically ascribes Revolution87+ 750W to the high-end items with 750-800W power characteristics. The discrepancy between the efficiency on +12VDC bus and the unit's overall claimed power does not go beyond 0.992.

Enermax Revolution87+ 750W is not notable for unique or catchy design. Quite the opposite: it speaks more of the internal layout, rather than external attracting means. The casing has got dull coverage with invoiced effect.

Cable and Socket Management

This model features as non-removable so modular cables. The number of sockets and their localization on the plaits is satisfactory for the connection with all essential PC components. SATA Power sockets are housed on three plaits that provide for optimal convenience of usage. All cables are characterized by middle-length dimensions; thus, this PSU will be an appropriate match for Mini-Tower, Midi-Tower and Full-Tower chassis with upper localization.

Cooling System

PSU model Revolution87+ 750W is equipped with a branded Enermax fan of 140 mm dimensional type (codename ED142512W-DA). This fan is based on an advanced sliding bearing: its framework contains self-lubricating bushing that is designed with the implementation of nanotechnologies. It also features a magnetic bracket which serves a couple of essential means; firstly, it unloads the reference bearing, and secondly, it centralizes a rotor shaft.

All chief semiconductor components are installed on two heatsinks, while independent power converters at +3.3VDC and +5VDC channels are located on affiliate boards which are void of additional heat dissipation tools.

Efficiency

Testing results demonstrated that PSU Revolution87+ 750W is able to achieve up to 90% efficiency at 200W-600W power. At the same time, if the power is reduced to 50W, the efficiency index drops to 79%, and when it's reduced to 35W – to 75%. Dissipation power chart shows a smooth line without any acute curves; but when the power reaches 500W, the curving becomes more prominent.

Noise Level

It should be stated that noise level produced by this model is quite low on various power loading conditions. This implies that the noise won't interfere with the usual background noise. Moreover, noise level is the lowest when the power loading approximates 350W; it gains some noise effect when the loading is augmented to 500W-750W, nevertheless it keeps within the standard ranges.
