CPU Cooler Scythe Grand Kama Cross Rev. B Review

Scythe is the company known for an optimal correlation of efficiency with price, whenever we speak about cooling systems. In fact, this manufacturer develops and supplies coolers practically for all sections of PC chassis. Moreover, Scythe constructs not only classical tower-like coolers but also singular products unique in framework, design and compatibility. Model Grand Cama Cross Rev. B is not exception, since this CPU cooler's atypical framework is the first thing that strikes the eye. Nevertheless, this product is outstanding also by its efficiency and reliability.

Framework Peculiarities

Cooler Scythe Grand Cama Cross Rev. B is compatible with a variety of processors housed in Intel's Socket LGA 2011, 1366, 1156, 1155, 775 and AMD's Socket FM1, AM3/(+), AM2/(+). Unlike all traditional vertical and horizontal frameworks, this model consists of two sections located in diagonal at 40 degrees angle, relating to the cooler's base. Both parts are managed by a single voluminous top fan. At the same time, heat pipes are intersected. Such framework resembles 'X' letter and that is why, it has been codenamed 'X-like' carcase.

Each heatsink section consists of three-rib groups of different height. The lower the group is located under the fan, the larger is the plates' volume and heat dissipation area. The base is made of copper and covered by nickel; it is pierced by four heat pipes with seventy-two aluminum plates (thirty-six plates at each section). All heat pipes feature linear localization relating to the heatsink sections; this is called to provide for an even heat transfer from the pipes to the plates. Tips of the pipes accommodate ornamental curfews.

The cooler's base consists of two parts, the central part of which is dedicated to the heat pipes. The latter are a bit flattened at joint places. The lower plate of the base is in contact with the CPU.

Fan

The nominal delivery set of Grand Cama Cross Rev. B contains 140 mm fan (SM1425SL12ML-P) that has got fixtures similar to 120 mm models. This implies that the user is free to substitute a 140 mm fan to a 120 mm fan, whenever there is such a need. Fixing to the heatsink is realized by means of four screws; there are no anti-vibratory paddings included into the fixture. The integrated fan employs 4-contact power socket and supports PWM technology. Its rotational speed might be manipulated within the ranges of 500-1300 RPM. This model is based on a slide bearing that is estimated for approximately 30 thousand hours of foolproof work.

In addition, the delivery package includes a detailed user's manual, a screwer, a thermal compound kit, a set of fixtures for Socket LGA2011, and a universal backplate for Socket LGA 1366, 1156, 1155, 775.

Installation

It should be underlined that Grand Cama Cross Rev. B is compatible with all actual platforms. Revision B added the support of LGA2011 socket. Fixtures for all CPU sockets are easily accessible and manageable. The first step to fulfill is screwing a universal backplate to the base; the second, and the last, step is to install the cooler with the help of dedicated clips. Rectangular base and unpretentious fixture allows the user to install this cooler, facing any side. In addition, this model is highly compatible with a large number of RAM modules.
