Monitor Dell U2713HM Review

Monitors with high resolution have deeply penetrated into our lives. Full HD resolution is considered to be a necessity for the up-to-date video standard, so manufacturers of not only PC monitors but also other devices, such as smart phones, mobile gadgets, etc., try to implement this standard into their products. Still, progress marvels us with a new development: more advanced WQHD resolution of 2560x1440 is gradually integrated into the monitors. Dell decided not to lag behind the pioneers in this sphere and designed a new model U2712HM.

Design and Ergonomics

Monitor Dell U2713HM is housed in a black or silver-black dull casing. The implementation of WLED lighting allowed the manufacturer to reduce the depth of the enclosure. It is fixed on a durable plastic stand connected to a black base with beveled angles and a central turntable. The base is made of solid metal; its rear board accommodates six rubber feet which are firmly pressed to the surface and save the monitor from imbalance. The monitor can be fixed on a wall due to a compatible VESA bracket.

The monitor is edged by a rather thick frame which protects the display from side brightening. The stand itself owns a range of functional facilities; the customer is capable to change the height of the stand, adjust the display slope from -4 to +21 degrees, and rotate the display at 45 degrees in each side. Additionally, it's feasible to adjust the display to the portrait mode by means of maximal lifting of the stand.

The nominal delivery kit of Dell U2713HM consists of user's manual, warranty list, power cable, CD with drivers, product information guide, D-Sub and DVI-D cable, and calibration report.

Specifications

The release of U2713HM drew great attention of customers looking for 27-inch WQHD-type displays. This is explained by the implementation of the latest facilities and comparatively low price. However, this model features a number of other attractive specifications, including:
— array type: AH IPS with WLED, response time – 8 ms;
— resolution: 2560x1440;
— viewing angles: 178/178 degrees both vertical and horizontal;
— brightness and contrast: 350 cd/square meters, 1000:1;
— implemented interfaces: audio output, DisplayPort, DVI-D, HDMI, D-Sub, four USB 3.0 ports;
— other peculiarities: factory calibration, sRGB mode, absence of PWM.

Menu and Control

All control manipulations are realized with the help of four dedicated buttons on the right frame plank. Those buttons feature changeable options: the display highlights an icon that corresponds to the operation activated by each button. Settings menu is enabled by clicking on any of them; it consists of various sections and subsections. The first button corresponds to the pre-installed display modes, the second one – to the adjustment of contrast and brightness, the third one – to the activation of the main menu, and the final one closes OSD display.

The main menu doubles the functions of brightness and contrast change. 'Input Source' subsection enables the needful video interface. 'Color Settings' section is responsible for color scale, format (RGB or YPbPr), and clear settings activities; 'Display Settings' arranges all blocked parameters, like definition, needful on D-Sub connection; 'Other Settings' section embraces language, transparency, power consumption, and visibility time options.

Gamma Curves

The fluctuation of gamma curves have been tested in all available display modes. Hence, in Standard by default mode, color channel gamma curves are higher than the reference curve. This might lead to the lack of image contrast, though color rendering is appropriate. In sRGB mode with factory calibration gamma curves tower over the reference curve and give 1.98 of average gamut.
