Design and Layout

One of the key peculiarities ascribed to the mainboard is a high layout density. In order to locate all necessary components, Gigabyte had to place some gears on the reverse side of the PCB. Chipset heatspreader is quite compact; it consists of few fins and is fixed due to spring-mounted clips. The bottom-right corner accommodates four sockets for the installation of drivers as well as USB chips.

The model is equipped with a gold-plated USB DAC-UP Power output that receives power by means of DC-DC RT8288A converter. CPU power stabilizer is designed according to 4-channel scheme on the basis of ISL95810 PWM-controller; each of the channels involves NTMFS4C06N power components. Both abovementioned video outputs house a dedicated signal converter: PTN3360D & ASM1442.

UEFI & Software Bundle

Despite the implementation of not the latest chipset version, GA-B85N Phoenix boasts the latest microcode version. The main M.I.T interface section is dedicated to the fine tuning of system components used for overclocking. CPU operation might be organized via a few ready-to-use CPU Upgrade profiles; however, there are no options for clock frequency alteration and no LLC features for CPU power voltage. System Information section unveils basic system data, including local time & date. BIOS Features section offers boot settings and polling. Additionally, UEFI features 8 slots for settings and firmware upgrade master.

To continue, this mainboard is rich in the amount of referential programs. First of all, it boasts the availability of a dedicated software kit for network connection – cFosSpeed. Second of all, the range of offered utilities is called to enhance the performance and facilitate with tuning. Thus, it’s possible to use System Information View, Smart Fan Auto (for fan operation adjustment), Record and System Alerts, Hardware Monitor, EasyTune options, etc.
