Philips is happy to replenish its own inventory with a new bezel-less display, codenamed 274E5QSB. This 27-inch monitor belongs to Brilliance series and features AH-IPS panel. Design and Ergonomics

Developers from Philips tried hard to design an original monitor that would distinguish itself from dozens of rival products. In view of bezel-less nature, the only possible for the realization distinction lies in the shape of central tower, stand base and rear panel of the display. Hence, the central tower is initially fixed to the monitor; the user will have to mount the base and enable the cables only.

With the purpose to detach the tower and hang the display by means of VESA bracket the user needs to remove a plastic plug and unscrew the fixtures. The round-shape base, made of plastic and enforced with a metallic backplate, features a stylish circular polish. Unfortunately, Philips designers haven’t taken care of a proper cable management system, leaving all the wires and cables to the users’ charge.

About 80% of the rear panel is covered by a brushed aluminum, while the rest of this area has got a glossy plastic coating; the latter is half-transparent and is thought to take burgundy shade on sufficient lighting. All basic connectivity sockets found their places at the display’s back. Here one may find a power socket, a digital DVI-D port, and an analog D-Sub port. Nothing more. Panel centering is ideal: the display is not swinging on the slightest touching.

Menu and Control Options

Philips 274E5QSB is controlled by means of five physical keys, located at the bottom-right angle. The function of each key is reflected by means of dedicated icons. The utmost-right key is responsible for turning the power on/off, the other key calls the main menu, and the left three keys offer some special settings, which are absent in the main menu. For instance, here one will find SmartImage modes, quick selection of signal source and switch of image scaler modes.

The main menu looks a bit of dismal. The first section, called ‘Input’, allows the user to switch between the signal sources. ‘Picture’ section offers a range of settings for brightness and contrast adjustment, for the definition of the scaler working mode, and for enabling the function of Pixel Orbiting. Defining the location of OSD screen, adjustment of its transparency and time till disappearance might be realized in ‘OSD Settings’ section.

‘Color’ section traditionally allows for the selection of one of the pre-installed color temperature modes and for the regulation of RGB index in a special preset. Language localization can be found in a separate section. The final section, called ‘Setup’, greets the user with unavailable for digital connection settings, such as disabling the pop-up window with the data about working resolution and clearing of all the settings by default.
