The First Glance at MSI X99S Gaming 9 ACK & Z97 Gaming 9 ACK Mainboards

MSI could not resist the temptation to officially introduce a pair of new gaming mainboards: the X99S Gaming 9 ACK and the Z97 Gaming 9 ACK. The key distinction of new-comers from analogue models without ‘ACK’ attribute lies in the implementation of dedicated gaming network controllers: Qualcomm Atheros Killer 1525 and Killer E2205. The first one is supposed to support 802.11 ac standard that guarantees 867 Mb/sec throughput bandwidth; it also ensures less data deference. This provides for a faster network traffic processing and, as a result, — for a huge advantage in online gaming.

The E-ATX MSI X99S Gaming 9 ACK motherboard is based on Intel X99 chipset, estimated for Intel Core i7-5000 CPUs with Socket LGA2011-v3. The model features 8x DIMM slots for DDR4-333 MHz memory (4-channel operational mode) of up to 128 GB capacity. Storage subsystem offers eight SATA III ports, whereas expansion facilities are ensured by means of five PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots. The list of external I/O ports involves one PS/2 Combo, five audio ports, one Optical S/PDIF Out, one RJ-45, Clear CMOS button, two USB 2.0 ports, eight USB 3.0 port.

The board comes equipped with a proprietary Streaming Engine technology that enables the translation of gaming process to the network at 1080 pixel resolution and 60 Mb/sec data speed rate. Additionally, this board accommodates SATA Express and Turbo M.2 interfaces.

For its part, the ATX-shaped MSI Z97 Gaming 9 ACK model is powered by Intel Z97 chipset that supports Intel Core/Pentium/Celeron CPUs with Socket1150. It is furnished with 4 DIMM slots for 32 GB of DDR3-3200 MHz RAM. Connection of drives is realized due to six SATA 6 Gb/sec ports and one M.2 10 Gb/sec port. A triple of PCI Express 3.0 x16 and the same number of PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots add to the board’s expansion facilities.

Besides, the board boasts a sophisticated Audio Boost 2 audio subsystem; the latter employs CMedia CM6631A audio processor, Wolfson WM8741 digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and TI TPA6120A2 amplifier.

To continue, in other terms, both mainboards feature identical exclusive specifications, including premium hardware base, a set of internal/external interfaces, and a stylish sleek gaming design. Furthermore, they offer rich facilities for storage organization, enable CrossFireX and SLI graphics configurations, and allow for connecting overclocking RAM modules.
