PC Monitor LG 24EA53VQ Review

PC display makers fall over backward to win as many customers as possible. We may hear now and then about factory calibration, new case coating, optimized power consumption, and so on and so forth. Thus, each manufacturer increases the number of practically analogous products but with a slight distinction. The situation is different with LG that always tries to offer only innovative facilities. It remains only to look at its monitor model, codenamed LG 24EA53VQ, that is differentiated by a new panel type – AH-IPS – with 23.8 inch dimensions. Not 23 inch as standard IPS models have, not 24 inch as AMVA items have, but a totally unique panel! Certainly, this is not the only advantage of this display.

Design and Ergonomics

In regard to design, 24EA53VQ resembles its predecessors a lot, having a thin frame, classical look, and plastic coating. The display case is equipped with an external PSU, a dedicated VESA bracket, and W-LED that owns power-saving properties. Such technological approach allowed the company to reduce the case depth and save on its hardware layout. The entire rear part of the case is covered by matte plastic, while its frontal part is all about glossy plastic. The implemented stand base is made of plastic as well, but with a rough, endurable aluminum-like polishing. The stand does not have rich functional and offers only display tilt within the measures of -5/+20 degrees.

All sockets for the connection of various devices are located on the rear facet with backwards orientation. Here one may find a power socket, an audio output (for external acoustic system or headphones), and video outputs: DVI, HDMI and D-Sub. Display centering is ideal, what can’t be said about framework grogginess. The case is in a flurry at any slight touch. This might be thought as not so vital, but a disadvantage.

This monitor is delivered non-assembled. Its nominal delivery set contains CD with user’s guidelines, drivers and dedicated software, Easy Setup Guide, D-Sub cable, and an external power supply unit with a power cable.

Menu and Settings

All control functions are rested upon six physical buttons, located at the lower facet of the display. One of the buttons, Power On/Off, is estranged from the others and features an accompanying indicator. Menu button, which gives access to menu settings, is of peculiar interest to potential users.

Menu itself consists of several main sections. The first section comprises brightness, contrast, scaler operation (blocked on DVI connection), and ‘clear all parameters’ settings. The next section, entitled ‘Image’, offers sharpness, accuracy, black level (on HDMI connection), and Overscan On (blocked on DVI connection) settings. ‘Color’ section is dedicated totally to the setup of color temperature (4 presets), six-axis color adjustments (hues and saturation), and clear of all color settings by default.

‘Display’ section contains settings necessary on D-Sub connection: frequency, phase, image localization. ‘Audio’ section settings are available only on HDMI connection; here one may find volume and output adjustments. The last section is devoted to all general monitor settings, including the setup of language, power indicator enabling/disabling, the setup of array overclocking modes (response time modes).

It should be mentioned that the user can shift to factory imaging modes at once, thanks to My Key button. Function button gives access to Dual Web, Dual Display and Super Energy Star settings (after upload of a corresponding software piece).
