Next year TSMC will start manufacturing the first 20nm chips

The Taiwanese company TSMC confirmed its intention to start production of chips using 20 nm technological processes in 2013. However, for now the company does not plan its production on an industrial scale and will release the first chips in a limited quantities, giving them a total of 1% of production capacity. According to the head of the company, the mass production of semiconductor chips with this technology will not begin until 2014.



Meanwhile TSMC Company is going to produce only one version of the chip, which will be able to enter into the wide range of devices, from smart phones with low-power to high-performance graphics cards. For comparison, the Taiwanese company currently has four different output chips on 28-nm technology. Netgear Boasts a New Advanced ReadyNAS Family

Netgear, a renowned designer of high-end network and storage solutions, has recently announced the release of a new NAS family, codenamed ReadyNAS. This family consists of three desktop NAS series (home, corporate and universal) and one rack model of 1U form-factor. Depending on the model, storages are delivered either in diskless configurations or complete with disks. One of the peculiarities pertained to these products is that they operate under a new version of ReadyNAS OS 6 platform.



According to Netgear, all the models within the ReadyNAS family are characterized by the implementation of diverse data protection options. Among others, the user will be able to utilize such functions as practically unlimited number of snapshots, replication with monitoring from the cloud, solid-drawn file synchronization due to ReadyDROP, integration with Dropbox, and automatic volume expansion due to XRAID. Nvidia Announces Quadro K6000 Professional Graphics Solution

Nvidia is going to release a new graphics card for professional use from Quadro series. Entitled Quadro K6000, it is targeting high-performance workstations, due to an uncommon computing efficiency with 5.2 TFLOPS single precision. This graphics adapter fully utilizes the computing possibilities of GK110 GPU and accommodates 12 GB(!) memory to lead across the segment.



Nvidia Quadro K6000 is based on GK110 graphics core (Kepler 28 nm architecture). As distinct from mainstream customer-oriented versions with neutered core – Titan, GeForce GTX 780/770 – this model employs a full-fledge core. This results in the augmentation of CUDA cores up to 2880 items, ROPs — up to 48 items, and TMUs — up to 256 items. GK110 here runs at 900 MHz.
