Dual Invasion: Silentmaxx & SilverStone Show Off with New PC Cases

Silentmaxx, a well-known German developer of PC hardware components, comes out into the market with a new mid-tower case, entitled ST-360. It features 450x195x431mm dimensions and boasts a strict classic design. The chassis is made of SECC steel and ABS plastic. It is intended for the installation of mini-ITX, micro-ATX and full-format ATX motherboards.

Furthermore, Silentmaxx ST-360 is ready to accommodate four 5.25-inch drives and analogous number of 3.5-inch drives. Similar to the majority of full-tower cases, this model offers seven expansion slots for the installation of graphics adapters and expansion cards. The integrated top I/O panel houses two 3.5- mm mini-jacks as well as USB ports (2.0/3.0 versions). Airflow is organized by means of two fans: 140-mm frontal fan & 120-mm rear one.

To continue, one more renowned hardware manufacturer – SilverStone – has just introduced its nontrivial PC chassis – a modernized version of Milo ML06, the Milo ML06-E …

Seagate Launches the 5th Generation FireCuda SSHD

Seagate has expanded its lineup of hybrid drives with the 5th-generation FireCuda SSHD. The greenhorns are based on shingled magnetic recording technology (SMR), rather than perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR). The SMR enables the partial superposition of data tracks; it ensures the ultimate record density. The models are backed by a 5-year’s limited warranty.

Seagate FireCuda series is introduced by 5 models, developed in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch formats. Their capacity varies from 500 GB to 2 TB. The drives employ MLC flash memory (8 GB) as well as SATA 6 Gb/sec external interface. The spindle rotates at 5400 RPM.

The average data read speed makes up 140 MB/sec with 2.5-inch models & 156 MB/sec with 3.5-inch items. The latter offer also up to 190 MB/sec of the average read speed from flash memory; besides, it takes only 8.5-9.5 ms for the chips to search for the needed data on Read/Write operations. To add, the new FireCuda is thought to consume between 1.7-6.7 W power.

Deepcool is preparing a new cooler with heat pipes

Deepcool production company of inexpensive and quite efficient cooling systems has provided a sample of CPU cooler — Big Frost (tentative codename), which is an extension of current Frostwin model. Previous model has 4 sintered powder heatpipes, which conduct heat from the processor to protect it from overheating. Also, like a new model, it has 120mm fans.

New model has a simple design, but strict, almost «standard», forms will not prevent it from showing a decent performance. It works with less noise and performs an effective cooling. Big Frost consists of a nickel-plated copper base with a miniature auxiliary radiator, six U-shaped copper heatpipes, each of 6 mm in diameter, and two sections of aluminium plates of similar thickness. Pre-installed fans are running at different speeds. One turns with intensity of 1300 r / min (22.6 dB noise), the other — in the range from 900 to 1500 rev / min (21,4-32,1 dB).
