Intel Debuts with 5th Gen Core Mobile CPUs

Within the confines of CES 2015, Intel has officially introduced the fifth generation of Intel Core mobile processors. The lineup is targeting traditional laptops, ultrabooks, 2-in-1 devices, chrome-books, all-in-one items as well as mini-PCs. Besides, the company pin hopes for their CPUs to be additionally implemented within ‘All-inclusive Internet/Internet of Things’ embedded device concept.

New processors are designed according to 14-nm Intel Broadwell architecture. Due to the transition to a brand new technological process, the number of transistors has increased by 35%; herewith, the core area has reduced by 37%. Such innovative move provided for the enhancement of efficiency with simultaneous cut of power consumption. As a result, devices with the integrated Intel Core CPUs are called to run 1.5 hours longer in standalone mode.

The 5th generation lineup might boast the support for the latest codecs (HEVC, VP9, VP8), technologies (Intel WiDi 5.1, Intel RealSense 3D), and API (OpenGL 4.3, OpenCL 2.0, DirectX 12, DirectX 11.2).

To continue, customers will soon be able to class the facilities of 17 advanced models. Of these, one can find:
— a single two-core Intel Pentium 3805U processor with 2 MB cache L3, 15 W TDP, Intel HD Graphics;
— a pair of two-core Intel Celeron processors (3205U and 3755U) with 2 MB cache, 15 W TDP, and Intel HD Graphics;
— three Intel Core i3 (i3-5005U, i3-5010U, i3-5157U) items with support for four virtual threads, Intel HD Graphics 5500/Intel Iris 6100 graphics, and 15 W/28 W TDP;
— six two-core Intel Core i5 (i5-5200U, i5-5300U, i5-5250U, i5-5350U, i5-5257U, i5-5287U). The first two models feature Intel HD Graphics 5500 and 15 W TDP; the other two – Intel HD Graphics 6000 and 15 W TDP; the latter two – Intel Iris 6100, 28 W TDP;
— five two-core Intel Core i7 (i7-5500U, i7-5600U, i7-5500U, i7-5650U, i7-5557U) processors with support for Intel Hyper-Threading technology. They feature 4 MB cache L3, 15 W/28 W TDP, and Intel HD Graphics 5500/6000/Iris 6100.

Furthermore, Intel has announced the shipping of 14-nm CPUs for tablets, codenamed Intel Cherry Trail. They feature SoC design, with 64-bit microarchitecture and enhanced performance. Additionally, these items are equipped with Intel Generation 8-LP graphics and Intel XMM 726 modem that supports 4G LTE Cat.6 networks.
