It’s Already Here! Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Officially Launched

Several months of prolonged rumors have ended in the final release of the much-wanted graphics card from Nvidia — GeForce GTX 780, designed for desktop devices. This is the second solution from this manufacturer for mainstream market, developed in accordance with 28 nm technological process (after Titan series), and the first representative of Nvidia GeForce 700 series. The product is based on Nvidia GK110 graphics core that features 2304 current processors, 192 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

With the attempt to enhance the card’s productivity and make it rival with Titan solutions, Nvidia has dynamically increased GPU clock frequencies from 837 MHz to 863 MHz (nominal) and from 876 MHz to 900 MHz (overclocked). This adapter employs PCI Express 3.0 internal interface. Power supply is realized by means of two power connectors: one 6-contact connector and one 8-contact connector.

In regards to video memory, the manufacturer incorporates highly-efficient GDDR5 modules with 384-bit interface and 3 GB capacity. Their clock frequencies make up 1500 MHz and 6000 MHz for nominal and effective index correspondingly.

To continue, cooling system employs two-slot design with a single turbine-like fan. The latter directs the airflow along the circuit board and then pushes hot air outside the card’s case. Fan operation is monitored with the help of an advanced controller; it takes thermal data from an incorporated sensor and thus adjusts fan speed. This allows to considerably reduce the noise level and to cut down rotational fluctuations.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 consumes 250 W at average. Its external interface panel consists of two DVI ports, a single DisplayPort, and one HDMI port. In addition, this graphics adapter is known to support a multitude of advanced technologies, involving OpenGL 4.3, DirectX 11.1, Nvidia Boost 2.0, GPU Boost, TXAA, FXAA, SLI, VSync, Surround, and others.
