Air-Cooler Evercool Silent Shark Review

Evercool has been conquering the market of cooling components and wholesome systems for almost twenty years already. Its arsenal basically consists of models targeting entry-level and budgetary segment. However, the company has lately introduced a range of high-quality products which can be applied in powerful PC systems. Air-cooler Silent Shark is an atypical representative of Evercool’s product line, if viewed from price and layout respect. It enjoys at least one unique feature, as well as a bunch of standard ones, the combination of which gives durability, efficiency, and power.

Framework Peculiarities

Evercool Silent Shark features quite impressive dimensions: 165 mm (h) x 140 mm (w) x 166 mm (l). The framework itself contains a two-section aluminum heatsink, six copper heat pipes that pierce a copper base, a plastic lid, and two powerful fans. One of the fans is located between the sections, while the other – at one of the external heatsink faces. Each section consists of forty-five aluminum plates pressed-on the heat pipes. Pressing mechanism is organized without the so-called ‘locks’ along the entire pipe surface; this provides for a better contact and a full-blown thermal exchange between the pipes and heatsink plates. All junctions with a copper base are neatly soldered.

As it was mentioned above, Silent Shark is furnished with two 120 mm fans, fixed by screws within a plastic lid. Both of them are based on a hybrid bearing and are estimated for sixty thousand hours of foolproof operation. The work of an internal fan (EC12025H12EP) is monitored by PWM method. Its rotational speed might be adjusted within the measures of 800 RPM – 2200 RPM. The maximal airflow produced by the fan approcximates 60.6 CFM, but the noise does not step over the 16 dB limit.

To continue, it’s time to mention about a unique framework of an external fan. This fan (EC12025M12EA) boasts seven planar blades with ‘shark’s fins’ on its tips – Silent Shark technology. Unlike its companion, this model is not equipped with PWM functions and features a stable speed index: 1400 RPM. The maximal airflow achieves the mark of 66.6 CFM and the noise level rises up to 26 dB. But one of the most striking peculiarities associated with this fan is the possibility for the user to install it at an angle of 30 degrees to the heatsink section. Due to such facility, the airflow is directed right to RAM modules and heatsinks on the power elements.

Compatibility

Air-cooler Silent Shark from Evercool shows compatibility with most of contemporary platforms. Thus, it can be applied to such CPUs with sockets: Intel (LGA 775, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011) and AMD (Socket FM1, FM2, 939, AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+).

Testing

Testing results demonstrate that Silent Shark is able to compete not only with its rival analogues, but with more efficient coolers, like Phanteks PH-TC14PE. Hence, on standard operating conditions Silent Shark yields only 1 degree to PH-TC14PE, on medium rotation (1640 RPM) one can see the same 1 degree difference. When it comes about noise level, air-cooler from Evercool appears to be more silent than other test takers. Even if the fan reaches 1030 RPM margin, its noise level remains at rather comforting ranges.
