Chassis LanCool PC-K62 Review

Some of the consumers might be puzzled at first by the launch of a new PC chassis from LanCool. LanCool is not a frequenter at IT market, though closer look at its history unveils the truth. In fact, this is a subsidiary company created by LianLi, a renowned manufacturer of PC hardware (chassis in particular). Thus, the launch of LanCool PC-K62 chassis won't confuse anyone, since the community is actually familiar with the products and technological solutions of this company. In general, LanCool PC-K62 is attributed to Dragon Lord series and intended basically at gamers.

Design

The casing of LanCool PC-K62 is designed in Midi-Tower form factor and made chiefly of steel with plastic inclusions. The prevalence of steel in the chassis design ascribes this model to the middle-price products segment. The left-side panel accommodates a transparent acrylic window that highlights the internal framework of the casing. It goes in a rather unusual shape that resembles a wing of a butterfly. The model is delivered only in black color due to the source material. Frontal and top panels are made of plastic. The ventilation grid takes almost the whole spacing of the top panel; the same touches upon frontal panel which is profoundly perforated. The right-side panel is totally blind.

The top-most segment of the frontal panel serves absolutely ornamental functions. A bit lower the user will find five 5.25 inch bays for drives with detachable plugs. The lower part of the panel covers a blow-off 140 mm fan which is delivered with the anti-dust filter. The back panel is void of any extraordinary components, though its design is quite attractive. The bottom panel contains only anti-dust filter that covers the space for PSU installation.

All control elements found their places on the top panel: startup button, reset button, and a few indicators signalizing about power supply and disk subsystem activity. Additionally, control panel allocates a couple of audio slots (supporting AC'97 and HD audio standards), and a couple of USB 2.0 ports. Unfortunately, this chassis doesn't have USB 3.0 interface that gains more popularity nowadays.

The nominal delivery kit includes a set of screws for motherboard fixture, a set of screws for fixture of other devices, a speaker, a set of rubbered paddings, fixture tools for PSU installation, wire holders, and an adapter from 3-pin socket to MOLEX.

Framework and Integration

Chassis PC-K62 stipulates the bottom-part PSU localization with the possibility to place it twofold, with the upper and lower fan adaptation. PSU is installed on special rubbered stands and can be fixed without any screws. The middle part of the casing is alloted for eight expansion slots and motherboard tray. The slots are accompanied by a plug which serves a fixing tool. The chassis is able to support motherboards of ATX or micro-ATX form factor. The motherboard is fixed to a hexagonal stand. A bit higher one can find two 140 mm fans made of transparent plastic. The distance between the rear plate and HDD bays approximates 290 mm that is sufficient for the installation of rather lengthy graphics cards.

It should be mentioned that LanCool PC-K62 supports up to four 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch drives. The bay for the drives is located in the lower frontal part of the casing. This chassis is notable for the efficient cable grooming approach. The major part of the cables is laid under the motherboard tray. Besides, the tray has got a large perforation opposite CPU slot. It is destined for the unimpeded work with CPU cooler (the maximal height of which might achieve 160 mm) without the need to remove the motherboard.

Cooling System

The nominal chassis integration embraces four fans, the three of which go with 140 mm dimensions. All four fans are equipped with three-contact power sockets. One 140 mm fan is located in the bottom part of the clipboard; its major destination is to provide cooling facilities for a bay with hard drives. The maximal speed equals to 1000 rpm. In addition, this fan is lighted up by blue LED. The other two 140 mm fans found their places near the top plate. Their rotational speed also equals to 1000 rpm. Their main destination is to blow off the air from the casing. The last 120 mm fan is located at the back panel. Its rotational speed is able to achieve up to 1500 rpm.
