CPU Cooler Phanteks PH-TC12PE Review

Phanteks is the company that established reputation for developing and supplying high-end thermal solutions which can be applied in diverse areas. Recently the company has made a shift to the IT market by producing high-quality PC cooling systems and at once entered into competition with the renowned cooling systems manufacturers, like Thermalright, Noctua and others. Phanteks PH-TC12PE cooler belongs to the echelon of high-end air cooling solutions and proposes a number of benefits for the advanced PC users.

Design and Integration

Cooler Phanteks PH-TC12PE is a two-sectional thermal solution that goes in 160x140x132 mm dimensions (without fans). Edges of pipes are cut and covered by a plate. The top surface of the ribs is glossy, while the bottom surface is dull. The implemented approach to the design of fans' framework and their fixture, that allows the user to fix the fans at different height, makes the installation of this cooler even in midi-tower chassis possible. The distance between the sections equals to 29 mm, while the depth of the sections approximates 51 mm; this adds some solidity to the cooler's integration.

The radiator consists of forty-three plates that dramatically enlarge the dispersion area. Heat pipes are not soldered the usual way, instead the manufacturer employs a dedicated C.P.S.C. technology. The configuration of heat pipes block differs perceptibly from the rival models: the designer implemented odd number of heat pipes (five items), when all other manufacturers tend to implement even number of pipes. In addition, the implementation of 8 mm TT configuration makes this cooler compatible as with compact CPUs for LGA 1155 socket, so for enlarged Sandy Bridge-E CPUs for LGA 2011 socket. The base consists of two plates with riffles; the TT block width equals to 41 mm. The pipes are parted equally but there is a central right TT.

Layout

Phanteks takes special attention to the cooler delivery set and overall layout. Thus, all the components are packed in separate boxes. The user will find in a set a lot of useful elements which facilitate the installation: universal backplate, fixing elements for AMD platform (for Socket AM2, AM2+, AM3, FM1), fixing elements for Intel platform (LGA 1155, 775, 1366, 2011), screws, plastic washers, wired bails for fans fixture, two-sided studs, and brand thermal compound PH-NDC. It is recommended to use a clamping plate while installation to provide for the solidity of construction. Thermal compound is delivered in syringe and consists of diamond nano-particles which are destined to ensure 100% heat management.

Brand Technologies

Phanteks decided to implement a couple of brand technologies in the development of its cooler. The first applied technology, P.A.T.S., is called to avert the influence of off-site heat sources on the radiator. This is achieved due to the peculiar reflective surface and ribs shape that dissipate the heat effectively. The second technology, codenamed C.P.S.C., stipulates the new joining type of heat pipes with ribs; it secures more efficient heat management.

Fans

Cooler PH-TC12PE is delivered with two nominal 140 mm fans. However, the manufacturer released one more fan as an individual product. Codenamed PH-F140TS, this fan employs Updraft Floating Balance Bering bearing type. It consumes 1.8W of power and uses three-pin socket. The most interesting thing is that this fan is delivered along with three adapters: one adapter is used for the connection with Molex slot, the other two adapters go with soldered capacitors. The fan is equipped with automatic restart system. Moreover, the fan is able to demonstrate up to 150 000 hours of foolproof operation. The only disadvantage of this fan is absence of PWM adjustment due to the implementation of three-pin power socket.
