Frameless AH-IPS Monitor ViewSonic VX2270Smh-LED Review

Frameless monitors are on the peak of popularity nowadays, due to a sleek design. That is the main reason why all manufacturers gradually transit to new standards of visual representation. ViewSonic is not an exclusion with its line of high-end monitors, including one of the most popular models – the VX2270Smh-LED. It differentiates from direct rivals primarily by the availability of a base unit with a touch-sensor control and a number of other unique features, which will be described below.

Design and Framework

First of all, this monitor’s design is a symbiosis of all modern frameless monitors and a proprietary ViewSonic elaboration – the unit base in the form of a leg. The display case is made of a matte and glossy plastic, though can’t be called endurable. Central stand is tightly brazed to the display; the base is mounted by means of two screws.

Unfortunately, neither cable-management system nor VESA bracket is incorporated within the framework. Socket hub is located with some inconvenience for the connection of wires with ferrite loops. Screen alignment is ideal, however, the customers will still face some swinging.

The integrated speakers have got quite an unusual localization: at the joint of the base unit and the stand. They add elegance to the model’s design but cannot boast powerful performance. The stand itself is plastic, whereas the base is metallic. Along the base’s perimeter one may find four rubber braces.

Menu and Monitoring

All control functions are ascribed to four touch-sensor keys (+ Power button with blue/orange backlit), located on the central stand. The keys are accompanied by the icons encoding their destination. Similar to other monitors, the VX2270Smh-LED features quick options, including volume, brightness and contrast adjustment, as well as the switch of a signal source.

OSD menu consists of eight major sections and Memory Recall tab for resetting. The first section – Auto Image Adjust – is not available on digital connection. The second one offers options for adjusting the initial contrast and brightness settings. The third Input Select section allows for choosing the source of signal. The next section – Audio Adjust – is dedicated totally to volume adjustment and audio source switch.

To continue, manual settings of color temperature and Color Temp. presets might be found in Color Adjust section. It should be noted that sRGB Mode provides for changing of color temp, but blocking of Brightness and Contrast settings. Manual Image Adjust offers Aspect Ratio, Eco mode and Sharpness settings. ‘Eco’ preset alters the brightness of backlit, whereas contrast remains unchangeable.

Setup Menu section contains not so vital, though versatile, for efficient operation settings, i.e. interface localization, OSD positioning on the screen, OSD Background, deactivation of power LED, etc.
