Overview of the CPU cooler Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1

Calling card of manufacturer is the low noise level, as evidenced by even the name. Product quality is also located at the highest level. In addition, the arsenal of the company has processor solutions of various designs and price ranges. Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 comes in strong, but very stylish black box. Inscription is indicating the ability of cooler to dissipate heat up to 150 watts. The bundle includes the following accessories: stiffening plate (backplate) for the motherboard; a set of bindings for the Socket 939/940/AM2 (+) / AM3 (+); a set of bindings for LGA775/1155/1156/1366; mounting screws and washers; steel brackets for mounting fans; syringe with thermal grease; User's Guide.

Radiator Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 is a classic tower. Four heatpipes 6 mm in diameter pass through the copper base. In the heat pipes 42 aluminium plates are threaded. The entire structure is covered with nickel. The mass of the cooler is 740 grams, along with a complete fan, dimensions — 98 x 96 x 158 mm. This is a relatively small figures, so the cooler will fit in most standard cases, and will not be much bend the motherboard.

The cooler is designed to install only one fan and one side only. Fins on this side have a nonlinear profile. They are a little cut to the centre in the form of a triangle. The edges of the plates have triangular teeth. All the solutions used by engineers to improve airflow to the ribs. Fins are not soldered to the heatpipes, but strung very tightly and securely. The sole is protected by a polymer film. Of course, before installing the CPU, it should be removed. In any case, clean the sole with alcohol or other solvent after removal of the film.

Heat pipes soldered securely and efficiently to the ground. There are no streaks; all excess solder is removed during manufacturing. The sole of the cooler is not ideal. First, it is not entirely smooth. In the centre there is a small bulge, which is confirmed by the imprint of thermal compound. There are no major grooves from the cutter, but a mirror finish of the soles is also not observed.

Cooler Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro is equipped with a fan, Be Quiet! Shadow Wings. Seven blades have knurled surface, designed to combat the turbulent flow of air, reducing the effectiveness of the fan. This model has a frame size 120 x 120 x 25 mm, and supports PWM adjustable speed. Declared noise level is 7,8-21,4 dB at impeller speed of 900-1700 r / min, respectively. Like most other manufacturers, Be Quiet! underestimates the alleged noise characteristics. At 1700 rev / min every 120 mm cooler produces the sound which is quite distinguishable from a distance of about one meter. A 21.4 dB — is a rate at which the sound meter distance is practically inaudible. Maximum air flow is 57.2 cubic meters. ft / min.

Spinner is designed for the voltage to 12 V. The maximum power consumption of the fan is equal to 2.4 W at 0.2 A. Like most fans of this manufacturer, Be Quiet! Shadow Wings is equipped with anti-vibration rubber feet. Overall, quality and noise performance of fan on low and medium engine speeds only leave a positive impression. Also, claimed MTBF is about 200,000 hours already. It is very high figure even for a plain bearing with a screw thread, which is used in the fan.

Pros: high quality of manufacture; good performance; high-quality fans included; attractive design. Cons: an awkward mount.
Many fans will appreciate the quiet low noise level and the possibility of a PWM fan speed control. Of course, the whole impression is spoiled by an awkward mount, but if to put the cooler once and do not touch it, it won’t be a problem. For frequent removal / installation of cooling system, it is recommended to choose another model.
