A Pair of New A88X-Based Motherboards for Socket FM2(+) from ASRock

According to the ASRock official website, the company has just unveiled the specifications of its two new motherboards, based on AMD A88X chipset. Codenamed FM2A88M Extreme4+ and FM2A88X Extreme6+, this couple has joined A-Style Series lineup and is estimated for APUs from AMD that support Socket FM2/FM2+ and have not more than 100 W TDP level. The realization of ASRock XFast 555 concept, which embraces XFast RAM/USB/LAN options, is the feature that unites both new-comers. Nevertheless, there are a lot of distinguishing features that make each model so peculiar.

ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ boasts the following specifications:

— form-factor: micro-ATX;

— memory: 4 DIMM slots, support for DDR3 modules running at 1066-2600+ (O.C) MHz, two-channel operational mode, maximal capacity – 64 GB;

— power supply system: digital controller, 4+2-phase power scheme;

— expansion facilities: one PCI slot, one PCIe 2.0 x1, one PCIe 2.0 x16, one PCIe 3.0 x16;

Intel Unveils Power-Saving Silvermont Architecture

Intel has just unveiled its new advanced working out: power-saving and high-efficient microarchitecture codenamed Silvermont. According to Intel, this architecture is primarily targeting devices with low power consumption and can embrace a vast production segment, starting from smartphones and finishing with datacenters. Silvermont is ready to demonstrate a threefold increase of performance and fivefold decrease of power consumption (with preservation of erstwhile efficiency), if compared with the current generation of Intel Atom cores.

Intel Silvermont has been elaborated in compliance with the norms of 22 nm technological process with the implementation of 3-D Tri-Gate transistors. The employment of new progressive techniques promotes for enhancing the operation speed and reducing energy demand of products which use Silvermont as the basis. Multi-core architecture with the support of up to eight cores ensures higher bandwidth, lower latency and more efficient operation on …

Computer Case be quiet! Silent Base 600 Overview (Part II)

Internal structure

The motherboard compartment is located above the power supply unit. In this regard, everything is quite standard for a Mid Tower class. A large cutout is made in a tray behind a CPU socket, to allow installation of a CPU cooling system directly into the case; a backplate mount (thrust-pad located on the back side of the motherboard) is used for this purpose.

The four large slots in a tray, equipped with the silicone membrane, are designed for proper cable management which looks very promising here. Plugs of expansion slots are attached by thumbscrews. The front part holds a hard disks’ basket for three drives.

At the back side a slot in a tray can be clearly seen to access cable management system slot. Also, the rear side contains two tool kits for installation of solid-state drives and size 2.5" hard disks.

The side cover is made of 0.7 mm steel, and from the inside has a thick vibration and noise absorbing coating. The recess in the …
