Plextor Debuts with M.2 6G Solid-State Drive

Plextor, an award-winning Japanese SSD designer, launches its another M.2 solution, codenamed 6G. This drive features 42 mm length only, fulfilling space requirements of small-sized but high-performance cases. The new-comer is available in two capacity variations: 64 GB (PX-64M6G-2242) and 128 GB (PX-128M6G-2242). Their retail price makes up $50 and $90 respectively.

Both Plextor M.2 6G solid-state drives come with PCI Express 2.0 interface. They are based on Marvell 88SS9188 controller and 19 nm MLC NAND flash-memory with Toggle interface (by Toshiba). The models support TRIM and NCQ technologies as well as DEVSLP power-efficient mode that reduces power consumption to 0.2 mW.

As far as speed characteristics are concerned, M.2 6G accelerate up to 520 Mb/sec on sequential Read operations; sequential Write index depends on the model: 160 Mb/sec for 64 GB model and 210 Mb/sec for 128 GB one. At the same time, random Read/Write operational index (4K blocks) makes up …

SilverStone Replenishes Its Nitrogon Series with Two Coolers

SilverStone, a Taiwanese manufacturer of high-end cooling solutions, has recently launched two new coolers codenamed NT01-PRO and NT06-PRO. Both models replenish the Nitrogon series and distinguish themselves by utmost compatibility. Hence, this couple is able to cool down practically all CPU systems developed by AMD and Intel, due to the support of sockets AM2, AM3, FM1, FM2 (AMD) and LGA775, 1155, 1156, 1366, and 2011 (Intel).

Coolers NT01-PRO and NT06-PRO consist of a copper-nickeled base, six heat pipes (6 mm each) and single-section aluminum heatsink. The first model NT01-PRO is delivered without nominal fans and features 140x97x120 mm dimensions. The customer gets the right to decide which fans, 70 mm or 80 mm, will provide more cooling effect to CPU. This cooler will benefit the most if integrated on the rear or top panel of PC chassis.

The second model NT06-PRO features 140x82x139 mm and is delivered with a single 120 mm fan. Its rotational speed is monitored by …

Thecus Company introduced a new naming scheme for products

Company Thecus decided to introduce a new naming scheme for its drives, so that users can easily understand its product line. New names will have all future models.

In the name with length of five to seven characters will be encoded some information about the device. The first letter indicates the type of device: N — NAS running Linux, D — DAS, W — NAS running Windows, V — NVR. This is followed by a two-digit number indicating the number of disks (compartments for storage) in the system. If this amount is less than 10, the first zero is omitted. Fourth and fifth digit is coded by the hardware platform used. For example, 21 — Cavium Econa, 31 — Marvell Armada, 51 — Intel Atom Cedarview, 52 — Intel EvanSport, 53 — Intel Atom third-generation, 81 — Sandy Bridge, 82 — Ivy Bridge, 83 — Other Platforms future generations. On the sixth position, which is reserved for future needs, zero is registered. If the system is performed in rack format, the model name is …
