One-Shot MSI Z170A Tomahawk Mainboard Review

Arsenal Gaming is a specific lineup of motherboards in MSI’s portfolio. It embraces 7 different models, joined under military-style codenames. The units are targeting primarily gaming community, although the Z170A Tomahawk is a universal solution at an affordable price. As distinct from the comrades, it features a set of controllers & sockets which are considered to be remnants of the past. Let’s find out what kind of advantages this board offers.

CPU & Memory

Motherboard MSI Z170A Tomahawk is developed on Intel Z170 Express chipset. It supports LGA1151-compatible CPUs of the 6th generation (Skylake): Intel Celeron/Pentium/Core i3/Core i5/Core i7. The hardware rests on a 4-layer dark PCB (304x224 mm, ATX) with red PCI-e and RAM slots. The rear panel is differentiated by the availability of a backplate for the CPU socket. The integrated ISL95856 controller is accountable for the providing power to the CPU (3+5 VRM).

ASRock Outs N3150DC-ITX Mainboard

ASRock has gladdened all devotees of small-sized, power-efficient & sustainable PC/multimedia systems by the introduction of a mini-ITX motherboard, entitled N3150DC-ITX. The model comes equipped with a 4-core Intel Atom N3150 CPU, running at 1.6 GHz basic frequency with the possibility to overclock up to 2.08 GHz frequency. Its key privilege is a sparing TDP level – 6 W only.

ASRock N3150DC-ITX boasts a totally passive cooling: the PCB houses a noiseless heatspreader without a fan. Memory subsystem is represented by two SO-DIMM slots which support the installation of DDR3/DDR3L-1600 MHz modules. The PCB teases only top-tier hardware components, including solid-state capacitors, ELNA audio caps, etc.

Storage might be organized due to a pair of SATA III 6 Gb/sec ports and the same number of SATA II 3 Gb/sec ports. A single PCI-e 2.0 x1 slot is intended for an expansion card, while mini PCI-e Express slot – for a wireless network interface module.

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-UP4 Review

The second generation of AMD A-Series hybrid processors, announced earlier in October, are already integrated in a number of graphics solutions. The newly appeared products are compatible with Socket FM2 only and cannot be applied for Socket FM1 infrastructure. This implies that a number of motherboards lose their upgrade facilities and can't be updated with a new advanced solution. Still, the market is currently ready to present a few boards destined to operate with the updated AMD A-Series. Gigabyte is one of the pioneers in this respect, introducing its motherboard GA-F2A85X-UP4, developed specifically for Socket FM2.

Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-UP4 is designed in ATX form-factor with 305x244 mm PCB dimensions. AMD A85X chipset is a heart of the motherboard; it secures the compatibility with A-Series (second gen.) APU and Athlon CPUs in the implementation of Socket FM2. The overall TDP level claimed for the model is not more than 100W. The PCB allots four DIMM slots …
