Lifting the Veil from USB Type-C Bus

Since the launch in 1995, Universal Serial Bus (USB) has proved itself as the most successful ever computing interface. Nowadays tens of billions of electronic devices are connected together due to it. It goes without saying that this bus has outlived a few modifications, each distinguished by higher speed and reliability. Thus, today the community is able to revel in a completely new modification – USB Type-C – that forecasts a lot privileges of connectivity process. Let’s see what users will get with a new bus.

Layout and Connectivity

In physical terms, Type-C is a bit larger than USB 2.0 Micro-B but a bit tinier than binary USB 3.0 Micro-B, featuring 8.34x2.56 mm. Such dimensions enable its connection to the devices of any type, including the thinnest smartphones/tablets. The oval-shaped socket houses 24 contact outputs (to compare: USB 3.0 sockets feature only 9 outputs).

The most outstanding physical peculiarity of Type-C is a symmetric connector that …

Meet New External HDD Armor A30 from Silicon Power

Silicon Power, a renowned manufacturer of flash-memory devices, is going to release a new external HDD, entitled Armor A30. The drive features 134x87.5x18.6 mm dimensions and is estimated to operate at +5-+55 C temperatures. The most outstanding peculiarity pertained to Armor A30 is its compliance with MIL-STD 810G Method 516.6 Procedure IV standard. This implies the drive is housed in a super-solid ‘silica gel’ case that is able to survive the fall from a height of 122 cm, strong vibrations, temperature alterations, and to resist dust and water.

Silicon Power armor A30 will be available in two capacities (500 GB and 1 TB) and two color variations (white and black). All the models employ high-speed USB 3.0 interface and offer some notable performance. Hence, these HDDs feature maximal 5 Gb/sec data transfer speed (USB 3.0 interface) and up to 480 MB/sec (USB 2.0 interface). It should be stressed that the drive receives power via USB interface as well and is compatible with …

Greeting One More Chassis of Urban Series from Thermaltake

Following the release of Urban S31 PC chassis, Thermaltake put its best foot forward to introduce one more representative of Urban series – Urban S41. This is a mid-tower case of a minimalistic design, with totally black exterior and interior. The model is vested in SECC steel coverage and will be available in two framework variations: with a large side-facet window and without it. In its entirety, the chassis features 516x220x520 mm dimensions and weighs 8.9 kg.

Thermaltake Urban S41 is ready to welcome all contemporary motherboards of ATX and micro-ATX standard. Despite its mid-tower framework nature, its internal capacity does not yield to some full-tower case species. Therefore, it positions four external drive bays of 5.25-inch format, five internal bays for 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives, and seven slots for PCI expansion cards. Additionally, the case is equipped with an external top-facet dock for the installation of drives with SATA interface (HDD/SSD). The frontal I/O …
