AMD Readies a Pair of Power-Efficient Desktop Processors

The Internet community is engrossed in a lively debate about the upcoming release of two new Richland desktop processors from AMD. The company has not made any official claims yet, however MSI marked the pair as an appropriate match for some of its new motherboards. Those Richland CPUs, which has already been launched by AMD, proved to be rather power-efficient, featuring 65 W and 100 W TDP level. But new entries – AMD A8-6500T and AMD A10-6700T – are thought to receive 45 W TDP package.

Upon the whole, AMD Richland processors position themselves as affordable, efficient and reliable solutions that can be employed for the assembling of systems with moderate or heightened demands. Some CPU models might be even used for the assembling of gaming systems. However, along with high performance, Richland processors are rather power-efficient; this makes them an ideal choice for home-based and corporate-class PC platforms.

Seagate Launches the 5th Generation FireCuda SSHD

Seagate has expanded its lineup of hybrid drives with the 5th-generation FireCuda SSHD. The greenhorns are based on shingled magnetic recording technology (SMR), rather than perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR). The SMR enables the partial superposition of data tracks; it ensures the ultimate record density. The models are backed by a 5-year’s limited warranty.

Seagate FireCuda series is introduced by 5 models, developed in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch formats. Their capacity varies from 500 GB to 2 TB. The drives employ MLC flash memory (8 GB) as well as SATA 6 Gb/sec external interface. The spindle rotates at 5400 RPM.

The average data read speed makes up 140 MB/sec with 2.5-inch models & 156 MB/sec with 3.5-inch items. The latter offer also up to 190 MB/sec of the average read speed from flash memory; besides, it takes only 8.5-9.5 ms for the chips to search for the needed data on Read/Write operations. To add, the new FireCuda is thought to consume between 1.7-6.7 W power.

Synology Comes Up with a Single-Drive DS115 NAS

Synology, a renowned developer of storage & network solutions, appears in the market with a new single-drive NAS, entitled DiskStation DS115. The greenhorn features 166x71x224 mm dimensions and is differentiated by an ergonomic design, noiseless operation as well as the support for power-saving technologies. The company promises to present all potential customers with a 2-year’s warranty and a reliable technical support.

Synology DiskStation DS115 might be employed in processes on music/photo/video streaming to various DLNA-compatible devices (TV-sets and gaming consoles) without any preliminary adjustments. It allows installing one 2.5-/3.5-inch drive with SATA III interface of 6 GB capacity. As for speed characteristics, the model ensures 111 Mb/sec and 104 Mb/sec on sequential Read/Write operations respectively.

This NAS is based on Marvell Armada 375 88F6720 processor with 512 MB of DDR3 memory; it runs at 800 MHz frequency. The layout also includes Gigabit network …
