Toshiba to Release Entry-Level A100 Solid-State Drive

Toshiba is about to release a 2.5-inch SSD, entitled A100. The entry-level model is based on TLC NAND flash memory chips (15 nm) with the cooperation of SLC cache memory. Traditionally, the drive employs SATA 6 Gb/sec interface and takes Toshiba TC58NC1010 chip as a controller.

The greenhorn is available in two versions: 120 GB and 140 GB (dimensions: 100x69.85x7 mm). The couple is an optimal choice for home & office PCs, thanks to the incorporation of power-efficient, high-performance and shock-proof technologies. The drives’ maximal data transfer speed on sequential operations makes up 550 MB/sec & 480 MB/sec (read/write). The maximal data transfer speed on random operations (4K) achieves 87.000 IOPS & 82.000 IOPS correspondingly.

Toshiba A100 solid-state drives are known to support NCQ, TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. technologies. An estimated MTBF index equals to 1.5 million hours. The 120 GB item might endure 30 TB of written information, while the 240 GB item allows for 60 TB …

Asus Surprises by Xonar U3 Plus External Sound Card

Asus always makes people stare at its gadgets, PC devices, and hardware components. Its latest external sound card, entitled Xonar U3 Plus, is no exception. It boasts a small-sized flash-like design, receiving power via a standard USB port. According to Asus designers, the card is intended for those customers who look for a comprehensive solution for high-quality audio playback and recording.

Asus Xonar U3 Plus is furnished with an in-build amplifier for headphones with a variable gain level, compatible with different audio fittings of less than 150 ohm impedance. Therefore, this amplifier dramatically improves the playback of high and low frequencies, adding dynamics to high-frequency and low-frequency sounds (to reproduce multiple effects: steps, blasts, etc.).

To continue, this model supports microphone recording in real time by means of an integrated digital signal processor; the latter ensures minimal latencies on audio programming. It also boasts the availability of …

BenQ Promotes a New PC Monitor with 1 ms Response Time

BenQ, a Taiwanese developer of diversified PC equipment, promotes its new monitor that will be released later this year. Codenamed RL2455HM, the model replenishes 'RL' gaming series and is primarily intended for the connection with gaming consoles. Thus, it might become a perfect tool for the devotees of dynamic shooters and other console games.

It is characterized by Full HD resolution (1920x1080), 60 Hz scanning, wide viewing angles (170 degrees vertical, 160 degrees horizontal), and high dynamic contrast ratio that achieves 12 million to 1 index. This monitor employs TN panel but can boast quite an outstanding response time: on gray-to-gray switch, array response time equals to 1 ms only. This is a dramatic breakthrough, if compared with the majority of other gaming displays that demonstrate from 4 to 7 ms time.

Still, interface panel is not rich on I/O ports: it is represented by a couple of HDMI ports and …
