PSU Chieftec BPS-650C2 Review

Chieftec, a renowned manufacturer of power supply units, has recently introduced a series of new PSUs, codenamed BPS, which included five different models. The two models differ from other items in color, dimensions, applied fans, and belonging to the lower PSU segment. The other three products belong to the high-end segment and own outstanding characteristics. Chieftec BPS-650C2 belongs to the high-end echelon that is confirmed as by its internal integration, so by general specifications.

Integration

PSU Chieftec BPS-650C2 employs modular system of cable connection and is notable by 650W of output power. The external design of the model did not outlive any dramatic changes, except for the availability of large stickers on the PSU casing. Quite the contrary, the integration has been given a completely new touch. BPS-650C2 is based on a new advanced platform developed by CWT. The manufacturer employed DC-DC converters for +3.3VDC and+5VDC channels. Those converters are …

Xigmatek Intros New CPU Cooler Gaia II

Xigmatek, an outstanding manufacturer of cutting-edge PC components, announces the release of a new CPU cooler, entitled Gaia II. The model is developed in accordance with a traditional tower-like framework and might be truly called a universal cooling solution. It supports a large variety of platforms for processors with TDP level of not higher than 150 W: Intel Socket LGA 775/1366/1156 and AMD Socket AM2(+)/AM3(+)/FM2/FM1.

Cooler Gaia II is designed with the direct implementation of H.D.T. technology (Heat Pipe Direct Touch). This implies that all three copper heatpipes, which stem from the heatsink base, come into direct contact with the CPU surface. The heatpipes themselves have got U-shape structure and 8 mm dimensions. They pierce ‘multi-plate’ aluminum heatsink to provide for a better heat dissipation.

The model is delivered with a pre-installed 120 mm fan with bright orange blades; it is fixed to one of the heatsink sides and housed in a black frame. The fan is …

ASRock Surfaces J3355B-ITX Mainboard

ASRock enters the market with a mainboard, targeting new Intel Apollo Lake CPUs (14 nm, Intel Goldmont micro-architecture). The J3355B-ITX model is thought to be integrated within laptops or entry-level all-in-one solutions. As seen from the codename, the board is developed in mini-ITX form-factor. It comes equipped with Intel Celeron J3355 processor, operating at 2.0-2.5 GHz frequency. The CPU features 10 W TDP; hence, cooling is backed by a noiseless passive cooler.

ASRock J3355B-ITX accommodates a pair of SO-DIMM slots for DDR3/DDRL3 modules with 1866 MHz frequency (up to 16 GB). The board comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 500 GPU that runs at 700 MHz. The connection of drives is realized via two SATA III ports. The incorporated PCIe 2.0 x16 slot is optimal for expansion cards, rather than a VGA card.

To continue, audio subsystem is based on 7.1-channel Realtek ALC887 controller, whereas network facilities are ensured with the help of Realtek RTL8111GR …
