Greeting an Affordable Z170A-X1/3.1 Mainboard from ASRock

ASRock is known for developing high-quality hardware components for a relatively affordable price. Thence, its latest Z170A-X1/3.1 ATX mainboard is not an exception, since its price tag does not go beyond $100. In order to cheapen the prime cost, the manufacturer backed away SATA Express & M.2 connectors, limiting the PCB by six SATA III 6 Gb/sec ports.

To add, instead of a modern 8-channel audio controller it incorporated a well-known Realtek ALC892 item. The other boons of modernity remained unchanged. Thus, ASRock took Intel Z170 top chipset as the basis for the motherboard. The chipset is targeting the latest Intel Skylake CPUs for Socket LGA1151. The PCB accommodates 4 DIMM slots for dual-channel DDR4-3466 MHz RAM (up to 64 GB max. capacity).

Graphics facilities are ensured thanks to a pair of PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, although there are three more PCI Express 3.0 x1 slots for the connection of other items. Network options are entrusted to gigabit Intel I219V LAN …

AMD Outs the World’s First Server FirePro S9300 x2 GPU

AMD has proudly announced the release of the world’s first server-grade graphics accelerator. Entitled FirePro S9300 x2, this GPU is called to facilitate in solving complex computing tasks and take graphics to the next level. The card is linked to the power unit by means of two 8-pin connectors, consuming up to 300 W power at most.

The heart of AMD FirePro S9300 x2 is a bundle of two AMD Fiji GPUs (GCN architecture). They feature a pair of 4096 stream processors and run at 850 MHz frequency. Each GPU employs 4 GB of HBM memory that operates at 1000 MHz clock frequency and offers 512 Gb/sec bandwidth.

The integration of two processing aggregates allows the accelerator to achieve some amazing 13.9 TFLOPS of computing power. As a result, the model exceeds in performance its nearest competitors: Nvidia Tesla K80 with 5.6 TFLOPS as well as Nvidia Tesla M60 with 7.4 TFLOPS.

The support for AMD GPUOpen stack is supposed to be the card’s key advantage. This stack enables …

The Specs of the Gigabyte Brix GB-EACE-3450 Compact PC Are Already Unveiled

Gigabyte has unveiled specifications of its Brix GB-EACE-3450 mini PC, however, the device is not on the market yet.

As distinct from many Brix series products, GB-EACE-3450 is anything but a gaming solution. It is based on the 14 nm Intel Celeron N3450 (Apollo Lake) processor and doesn’t have a discrete graphics core.

Ultimate RAM capacity of this compact PC comes up to 8 GB; and one can use M.2 SSD drives for storage. The cooling system is passive, so long as the case acts as a heat sink.

Brix GB-EACE-3450 offers many connectivity possibilities. Customers can use four USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI outputs, two Gigabit Ethernet and an audio jack. The presence of the RJ-45 port allows to connect RS232/422/485 through the help of adapter. Other highlights include wireless net adapters, a card reader, an inner slot for a cellular modem, three antennas and a VESA mounting bracket, which lets fix the mini PC behind a display.

The Gigabyte Brix GB-EACE-3450 with the 105 х …
