ECS to Release a Small-Sized H110S-2P Motherboard

ECS has officially introduced a new mini-STX motherboard, entitled H110S-2P. Featuring 147x140 mm dimensions, the greenhorn is based on Intel H110 chipset for Socket LGA1151 platform. The most peculiar thing about the mainboard is the availability of a full-sized LGA socket which allows for the installation of desktop CPUs (Intel Pentium/Celeron/Core i3/Core i5/Core i7) with the maximal TDP of 65 W.

Upon the whole, the model is targeting small-sized PCs. ECS H110S-2P accommodates a pair of SO-DIMM slots with support for 32 GB of DDR4-2133 MHz memory modules. Storage subsystem is backed by a single SATA 6 Gb/sec port & a single M.2 slot for SSD. There is also another M.2 slot but it is intended for the integration of wireless Wi-Fi/Bluetooth modules.

Audio subsystem is developed on the basis of Realtek ALC662 controller, whereas network facilities – on the basis of Realtek 8111H controller. The motherboard comes equipped with a couple of 3.5-mm audio ports, one RJ-45 …

HDD-Box with Futuristic Design from Icy Dock

The market of external enclosures boasts a number of products from different companies. Nevertheless, Icy Dock decided to stand out against the background of others and introduced its HDD-box codenamed MB080U3S-1SB Blizzard. It seems that the manufacturer went beyond the realism and created a really futuristic dock for hard drives: instead of standard square shape Icy Dock made diamond-shaped detachable clipboard.

The dock is made of metal and plastic, and goes totally in black color. The clipboard covers 80 mm fan which is called to cool down even hot drives. This is unusual fan localization for the external enclosures but the manufacturers explain their move twofold. Firstly, this way the fan is able to dissipate cool airflow to all sides of HDD. This ensures the longevity of the cooling fan and increases the cooling system efficiency. Secondly, it promotes for hassle-free installation without any screws or other tools. The ejection of the clipboard is enabled due to the …

Kingston and Adata Come up with M.2 SSDs

Within the framework of Computex 2014 both Kingston and Adata are going to introduce their fresh SSD series of M.2 form-factor. In keeping with the manufacturers’ words, the products – SM2280S2 and SR1020NP — are differentiated by some spectacular performance. At present the companies provide only basic info about the drives, leaving their fans in suspense.

Kingston SM2280S3 is based on Phison PS3108 that supports SATA 6 Gb/sec interface only. It ensures 540 MB/sec and 514 MB/sec speed on sequential Read/Write operations. For sure, it’s not the performance innovative M.2 drives should demonstrate (about 10 Gb/sec), although the model considerably surpasses traditional HDDs in this respect.

This SSD series is represented by three models of 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB capacity. All of them employ DDR3 cache-memory with the minimal 256 MB capacity. Besides, the difference in efficiency between other M.2 offers Kingston promises to compensate by a more affordable price.
