PSU Evga 500B: a Perfect ‘Price-Quality’ Combination

Evga, a merited designer of a large spectrum of PC components, is about to release a new power supply unit, entitled 500B (codename: 100-B1-0500-KR). As seen from the title, this model features 500W power and is oriented at saving users, rather than enthusiasts. The unit is already marked by 80Plus Bronze certificate, due to 80% efficiency level on ordinary loading. Upon the whole, 500B is thought to be a perfect ‘price-quality’ combination, ready to comply with all basic users’ requirements.

Evga 500B employs a single +12V rail that ensures a stable power supply to the connected components and guarantees compatibility with new equipment. The unit is estimated for 40A current at +12V rail. Stability of operation might be secured also by means of an onboard protection system; it saves the system from power disruptions, overloading, low input voltage, high voltage, and from short circuit.

To continue, quiet and reliable PSU operation is a merit of a low-noise fan. It …

AMD Readies a Pair of Power-Efficient Desktop Processors

The Internet community is engrossed in a lively debate about the upcoming release of two new Richland desktop processors from AMD. The company has not made any official claims yet, however MSI marked the pair as an appropriate match for some of its new motherboards. Those Richland CPUs, which has already been launched by AMD, proved to be rather power-efficient, featuring 65 W and 100 W TDP level. But new entries – AMD A8-6500T and AMD A10-6700T – are thought to receive 45 W TDP package.

Upon the whole, AMD Richland processors position themselves as affordable, efficient and reliable solutions that can be employed for the assembling of systems with moderate or heightened demands. Some CPU models might be even used for the assembling of gaming systems. However, along with high performance, Richland processors are rather power-efficient; this makes them an ideal choice for home-based and corporate-class PC platforms.

As for the announced models, their specifications are …

Toshiba to Release Entry-Level A100 Solid-State Drive

Toshiba is about to release a 2.5-inch SSD, entitled A100. The entry-level model is based on TLC NAND flash memory chips (15 nm) with the cooperation of SLC cache memory. Traditionally, the drive employs SATA 6 Gb/sec interface and takes Toshiba TC58NC1010 chip as a controller.

The greenhorn is available in two versions: 120 GB and 140 GB (dimensions: 100x69.85x7 mm). The couple is an optimal choice for home & office PCs, thanks to the incorporation of power-efficient, high-performance and shock-proof technologies. The drives’ maximal data transfer speed on sequential operations makes up 550 MB/sec & 480 MB/sec (read/write). The maximal data transfer speed on random operations (4K) achieves 87.000 IOPS & 82.000 IOPS correspondingly.

Toshiba A100 solid-state drives are known to support NCQ, TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. technologies. An estimated MTBF index equals to 1.5 million hours. The 120 GB item might endure 30 TB of written information, while the 240 GB item allows for 60 TB …
