PC Cases Enermax iVektor to Be Launched in Late August

Enermax is going to release its new iVektor series of PC cases already in late August. First seen at Computex 2013, these products draw prime attention due to unusual design and voluminous internal layout. The series counts three models that are differentiated by color: white version – Enermax iVektor (ECA3310A-W), black version – Enermax iVektor (ECA3310A-B), and red version – Enermax iVektor (ECA3310B-R). They are destined to be employed as the basis for the assembling of various system configurations.

All iVektor representatives are developed in midi-tower form-factor, featuring steel and plastic chassis. The cases support ATX/micro-ATX motherboards and seven expansion slots. Internal layout presupposes the incorporation of three 5.25-inch optical drives, as well as seven 3.5-inch drives. The height of a supported power supply unit might not exceed 179 mm.

When the user fills all seven bays for 3.5-inch drives, the maximal admissible length of graphics adapters …

Kingston Showcases New Enterprise-Class SSDNow E50

Kingston, an outstanding developer of various data storage solutions, has recently introduced a new series of solid-state drives intended for enterprise use. Entitled SSDNow E50, the products feature a standard 2.5-inch design and are available in three capacities: 100 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB correspondingly. The new-comer employs SATA III 6 Gb/sec interface and MLC NAND synchronous flash-memory.

Kingston SSDNow E50 takes LSI SandForce-SF2581 controller as the basis. It ensures rather high performance showings. With the purpose to guarantee a stable operation of the drives, to minimize data transfer errors and reduce the cell wear, the manufacturer furnished the models with DuraClass, DuraWrite, S.M.A.R.T., and RAISE technologies. As a result, Mean Time between Failures is estimated as 1.000.000 hours.

In regard to speed characteristics, each model demonstrates the following showings:

— SSDNow E50 100 GB: the max. sequential Read speed – 550 MB/sec, the max. sequential …

HGST Announces Corporate-Class Ultrastar C10K1800 Hard Drives

Despite the emergence of ultra-fast and voluminous SSD devices, data processing centers still require classical storage solutions. Hence, HGST, an affiliate company of Western Digital, decided to comply with the corporate demands by introducing budgetary hard drives entitled Ultrastar C10K1800. The new-comers are targeting exactly DPC-systems which are in need of high performance combined with fail-safe behavior.

HGST Ultrastar C10K1800 drives feature 2.5-inch form-factor and come in diverse capacity variations (from 300 GB to 1.8 TB). The models employ SAS interface with 12 Gb/sec throughput. It should be noted that designers involved the minimal amount of plates on the maximal possible tape density. The latter are thought to rotate with 10.520 RPM.

The implementation of only few plates provides for the reduction of power consumption; this is supposed to be a great benefit since the drives are estimated for a durable 24/7 operation. Thus, an average power consumption …
