Toshiba Preps New VX500 Series of Solid-State Drives

Toshiba America Electronic Components is glad to present a new series of SSDs, developed under OCZ brand. The VX500 models are targeting mainstream desktops & laptops, offering the most comprehensive storage solutions. The drives are designed in a standard 2.5-inch form-factor with SATA 6 Gb/sec interface. Solidity is backed by a 5-year’s limited warranty.



OCZ VX500 SSDs are based on Toshiba MLC chips (15 nm) which are characterized by a more conspicuous reliability than TLC chips. Hence, the items are an optimal tool for content creation, writing & reading info, downloading files, etc. The drives also employ Toshiba TC358790 controller.


The VX500 series is introduced by four models of different capacities: 128 GB, 256 GB. 512 GB & 1 TB. Their top power consumption index equals to 3.4 W. As far as performance specifications are concerned, the models feature the following data transfer showings:

HIS Adds 7770 iCooler to Its Graphics Cards Arsenal

A new graphics card of an average efficiency has appeared in the arsenal of HIS manufacturers. Codenamed HIS 7770 iCooler (H777FN1G), the card is targeted those gamers who would like to receive a dual effect: the possibility to play all up-dated games and to satisfy all other graphics requirements for a reasonable price.



Model 7770 iCooler is based on AMD Cape Verde TX GPU, developed under 28 nm technological process and built on Graphics Core Next micro-architecture. It involves ten computing blocks and 640 current processors. The processing unit is expected to operate at the reference 1000 MHz clock frequency. The integrated GPU is accompanied by 1GB of GDDR5 memory which employs 128 bus; its nominal clock frequency starts at 1125MHz, while its effective frequency might achieve the margin of 4500MHz.

The Ribbed Design Turns Akasa Newton S7 Case into a Heatsink

The Akasa Co. keeps releasing cases for system cards, intended for Intel NUC series mini PCs. The latest Akasa Newton S7 sample is aimed at Intel NUC7i5BNH, NUC7i5BNK, NUC7i3BNH and NUC7i3BNK sets boards, and the most important matter for replacing a standard case with a new one is aluminium utilization, providing passive CPU cooling. The framework upper lid and sides are made ribbed to perform the role of an effective heatsink.



On the front panel there are two USB 3.0 ports, the power button, the infrared sensor, as well as the headset and mic jack. The back panel has two connectors for removable antennas of wireless modules. Inside there is enough space for a 2.5-inch drive, not higher than 9.5 mm.
