Chieftec Introduces 4 PSUs of Smart Series

Chieftec has recently introduced four new power supply units, replenishing Smart series. The series is supplemented by GPS-400A8, GPS-500A8, GPS-600A8 and GPS-700A8 models. It should be stated that all the models are targeted only at European customers, since their specifications allow the connection only with 220V-230V networks. Those PSUs are also directed at average customers rather than gamers due to the company's plans to expand its horizons.

The major distinction between the upcoming models is their power that fluctuates in the measures of 400W and 700W. All PSUs are developed in PS2 form-factor and correspond to the ATX 2.3 international standard. Their casings have got black coloring and are characterized by non-modular design. The length of cables reaches 80 cm that is enough for the connection with various devices. Moreover, efficiency level of Smart series exceeds 80%. At the same time, all the models conform to the major environmental guidelines.

AMD Adds Three New Mobile APUs to Kabini Series

AMD has replenished its mobile APU line with three new models of AMD Kabini series: E2-3800, E1-2200 and A4-5100. The triple is developed on Jaguar microarchitecture (28 nm) with SoC design. Needless to say that the new-comers are destined to be incorporated within hand-held mobile devices, such as entry-level laptops and tablets. All of the models are housed in BGA 769 socket cases, thus the customers might expect their market appearance within ready devices.

SoC design stipulates the integration of a one-channel DDR3 controller with the support for two memory modules. In addition, it allows for the enabling of SD, USB 3.0, HD Audio, PCI Express 2.0, LPC, and SATA 6 Gb/sec interfaces. More details about each model are provided below.

AMD E2-3800

This model features 4 cores, operating at 1300 MHz clock frequency. It employs an onboard Radeon HD 8280 graphics chip that runs at 450 MHz. DDR3 controller supports the installation of modules of up to 1600 MHz frequency. The …

Intel Thunderbolt Ready Facilitates in Upgrading Your Desktop PC

Last week Intel announced a new instrumentality for upgrading desktop PC, called Thunderbolt Ready. This tool will help in incorporating Thunderbolt interface into the motherboards which initially do not have the support for it. However, only the motherboards with ‘Thunderbolt Ready’ marking and an inbuilt General-purpose I/O (GPIO) socket might fall under the upgrade. In addition to this feature, the user will have to acquire a dedicated card to enable the interface.

This card is installed into an appropriate PCI Express slot and is then connected to GPIO, as well as DisplayPort socket of the integrated/discrete GPU controller, due to the cables that go in batch. After this, the customer needs to upload dedicated software in order to activate the Thunderbolt. According to Intel, there are currently more than 100 alike products with Thunderbolt support; the majority of them are certified for the usage with PCs on Windows or Mac OS X platforms.
