HIS Radeon R9 290 IceQ X2: Graphics Card with an Offbeat Cooler

HIS has recently replenished its Radeon R9 series of graphics cards with a new model – the Radeon R9 290 IceQ X2. Based on AMD Hawaii Pro chip, this card is a combination of an ultimate efficiency and an offbeat design. The integrated GPU runs at an etalon frequency — 947 MHz. No changes have been incorporated into the frequency mode of GDDR5 memory: the 4 GB memory with 512-bus interface runs at nominal/effective 1250/5000 MHz frequency.

The major peculiarity pertained to the model is the employment of a proprietary two-slot cooler, codenamed IceQ X2. It consists of a spacious copper base (40x47.5 mm), a large aluminum heatsink, a pair of 89 mm fans, and five nickel-plated heatpipes: 2x 8 mm and 3x 6 mm. The cooler also accommodates additional heatspreaders, which dissipate heat in memory and VRM sections. Moreover, the framework boasts a dedicated stiffening plate that reduces loading on the printed circuit board.

Graphics Card MSI R7870 Hawk Review

MSI, a large-scale manufacturer of computer hardware and consumer electronics, has introduced its new lineup of graphics cards, codenamed R7870 Hawk. The new series goes with the upgraded Radeon HD 7870 video adapter, improved integrated circuit and overclocking base. In addition, these graphics cards will go with the implemented GPU Reactor and Unlocked Digital Power technologies. Upon the whole, the introduced integration and performance is called to compete for the customers' favor with other high-end top models designed by Gigabyte and Asus.

Design and Layout

Design of R7870 Hawk somehow resembles a short-cut version of R7970 Lightning from MSI as well. It has similar design of cooling system covered with blue strip. The cover hides five heat pipes and rather compact fans. The rear part of the card is covered by a metallic plate; there is a plastic boot opposite the graphics chip that covers GPU Reactor block. This block is based on a separate detachable board and …

Palit to Release GTX 780 JetStream 6 GB Graphics Card in a Few Days

Palit has officially claimed that a long-awaited kick-off of GeForce GTX 780 JetStream graphics card with 6 GB memory will take place in mid-April. The privileges offered by the card will be available for the customers with about €600 in their pockets.

Palit GeForce GTX 780 JetStream 6 GB is based on GK110-300-A1 GPU with 2304 CUDA cores, 48 ROPs, and 192 TMUs. The core operates at the basic 902 MHz frequency, still it might be overclocked to 954 MHz level. The implemented GDDR5 modules employ 384-bit bus and run at an effective 6 GHz frequency (1.5 GHz nominal index).

Power supply is delivered through one 8-pin socket and one 6-pin socket. The estimated TDP level makes up 250 W. Video connectivity is realized by means of four dedicated ports: HDMI 1.4a, DisplayPort 1.2, DL DVI-I, DL DVI-D. In addition, …
