ASMedia to Introduce USB 3.5 Controllers in 2014

ASMedia, an auspicious designer of PCIe bridges, USB 3.0 controllers and Switch IC items, announces the development of a new USB 3.5 controller. According to the preliminary information, this controller is going to support 10 Gb/sec data transfer speed, which is nearly twice higher than current USB 3.0. Earlier the launch of an advanced component was scheduled for late 2014, however, now the company is intended to officially introduce it early next year.

The decision to elaborate a speedier controller is explained by ASMedia in two ways. Firstly, the company is currently receiving more orders from motherboard manufacturers for the development of USB 3.0 hubs, due to the recent launch of Intel Haswell CPUs. Nonetheless, an enforcement of platform will sooner or later require an enforcement of various facilities, including connectivity and data transfer.

Secondly, USB 3.5 is called to rival Thunderbolt interface. It should be stressed that both interfaces feature analogous …

Philips Boasts the Slimmest 239C4QHWAB PC Monitor

MMD corporation has just introduced its newest PC monitor under Philips brand name. According to the manufacturer, the 239C4QHWAB is the world’s slimmest 23-inch model in the market: its depth does not exceed 12.5 mm. The display is made of 100% recyclable material and is peculiar by the support for Miracast interface. The latter secures immediate, wireless data transfer from the Android-based mobile device to the display.

The model is based on IPS panel with a power-efficient LED backlight. It features rather striking specifications:

— Full HD resolution (1920x1080);

— 20M:1 dynamic contrast, 1000:1 static contrast:

— 178/178 degrees viewing angles;

— 250 cd/m2 brightness;

— 5 ms response time;

— 16:9 aspect ratio.

The 239C4QHWAB is equipped with two stereo speakers (6 W overall power), 3.5 mm output for the headphones, VGA video output, and HDMI port with MHL support; the latter allows for the charge-in of mobile devices, connected via a …

Promising Speed Forecasts for AMD Radeon 8000 Sea Islands

AMD is continuing its work on the new GPU generation codenamed ‘Sea Islands’. The new series is prognosticated to be released in the coming winter. All the products with this GPU will be branded Radeon 8000. AMD manufacturers claim that their new graphic processing units will be 40% more efficient due to the implemented advanced technologies. There is not so much news about the future GPU architecture, although cardinal changes are barely possible.

Sea Islands chips will be equipped with 5.1 billion transistors as compared with the current 4.3 billion items applied in the products. This augmentation will facilitate the increment of efficiency. The chips will be developed according to the already tried-and-proven 28 nm technological requirements. The increase of transistors is not as large due to the adherence to the ascribed norms. It should be underlined that the implementation of the old technologies does not imply the considerable warming up of the chips; the developments …
