Company Thecus decided to introduce a new naming scheme for its drives, so that users can easily understand its product line. New names will have all future models.



In the name with length of five to seven characters will be encoded some information about the device. The first letter indicates the type of device: N — NAS running Linux, D — DAS, W — NAS running Windows, V — NVR. This is followed by a two-digit number indicating the number of disks (compartments for storage) in the system. If this amount is less than 10, the first zero is omitted. Fourth and fifth digit is coded by the hardware platform used. For example, 21 — Cavium Econa, 31 — Marvell Armada, 51 — Intel Atom Cedarview, 52 — Intel EvanSport, 53 — Intel Atom third-generation, 81 — Sandy Bridge, 82 — Ivy Bridge, 83 — Other Platforms future generations. The Curved NEC MultiSync EX341R Monitor Is Equipped with a Presence Detector and a Light Sensor

A specialty by NEC Display Solutions Europe – a wide-format 34-inch MultiSync EX341R monitor – is intended for business people and financial experts.



Among key specifications of the device one should note a presence detector and a light sensor allowing to optimize setups according to current conditions. Ergonomic stand provides additional convenience and lets customize tilt, height and rotation.


Users can admire slim design and narrow bezels of this display with a 3440 × 1440 pixels SVA panel. The aspect ratio of the device is 21:9, the contrast factor is 3000:1, and brightness equals to 290 cd/m2. Viewing angles are claimed to be 178° horizontally and vertically. MultiSync EX341R offers the 5 msec response time, covers 99.5% of sRGB and 77.5% of NTSC colour gamuts.


The interface is represented by a DisplayPort 1.2, an HDMI 1.4 and an HDMI 2.0, as well as a USB 3.0 hub. Stereo speakers are built in.


The novelty from NEC will cost approximately 1,000 USD.

Synology to Release 5-Bay DiskStation DS1515 NAS

Synology, a renowned manufacturer of network solutions, has launched yet another NAS, tailored to business-oriented customers with thirst for a comprehensive data storage, synchronization and backup processes. The heart of DiskStation DS1515 is Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-314 platform with 1.4 GHz processor and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. The greenhorn is equipped with a couple of USB 3.0 ports, a pair of eSATA ports, and a single 4-port gigabit Ethernet controller.



Synology DiskStation 1515 features five screwless bays for 3.5-/2.5-inch HDDs which support hot swapping option. The total capacity of all drives might not exceed 40 TB (5x 8 TB). This storage supports the creation of varied RAID configurations (0, 1, 5, 6, 10) as well as JBOD. The possibility to exert an entire control over power consumption is thought to be one of the key advantages of this model. Moreover, the chassis involves anti-vibration pads which reduce vibration and noise level.
