Toshiba will increase the capacity of hard drives up to 600 terabytes

Toshiba is engaged in improving the existing hard drives in order to increase their capacity. Limited to several tens of terabytes, Japanese do not want to stop — they need at least 600 terabytes in a single 3.5-inch drive. To do this, Toshiba uses all the tools and opportunities, including temporary cooperation with companies, competitors, TDK, and Showa Denko KK.

The newly formed trio of producers focuses on the development of new technologies of recording information on magnetic media and improvement of existing methods. Alliance sees great prospective in the technology of the so-called «two-dimensional magnetic recording» (TDMR). It is experimental, but using, it is quite achievable to record density of 10 terabits per square inch, which thus gives the capacity of 600 terabytes in a single hard drive.

Of course, no one talks about the chances of such a capacious storage in the foreseeable future — Toshiba and its partners will have more than one year of research …

Seagate Showcases New Enterprise-Class HDD Models

Seagate, one of the global leaders in HDD/SSD market, has elaborated and showcased two new enterprise-class HDD models. Codenamed Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K HDD v7 and Seagate Terascale, both entries are intended to be employed in data-centers and cloud storage systems. According to the designers, the drives are an optimal combination of capacity, efficiency and price. Hence, such specifications can’t but draw huge attention.

The first model, Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K HDD v7, is developed in 2.5-inch form-factor and utilizes SAS 6 internal interface. It comes in 1200 GB capacity with 64 MB cache-memory on board. The maximal spindle rotational speed achieves 10 thousand RPM, while the average index of power consumption makes up 8.02 W.

MSI introduced a tandem of graphics adapters GeForce GTX 680 Twin Frozr with 4 GB memory

The Taiwanese company MSI has released a new video card N680GTX Twin Frozr 4GB, built on the basis of the reference PCB GeForce GTX 680 with double buffer memory GDDR5 and cooling system Twin Frozr III.
