Thecus Company introduced a new naming scheme for products

Company Thecus decided to introduce a new naming scheme for its drives, so that users can easily understand its product line. New names will have all future models.

In the name with length of five to seven characters will be encoded some information about the device. The first letter indicates the type of device: N — NAS running Linux, D — DAS, W — NAS running Windows, V — NVR. This is followed by a two-digit number indicating the number of disks (compartments for storage) in the system. If this amount is less than 10, the first zero is omitted. Fourth and fifth digit is coded by the hardware platform used. For example, 21 — Cavium Econa, 31 — Marvell Armada, 51 — Intel Atom Cedarview, 52 — Intel EvanSport, 53 — Intel Atom third-generation, 81 — Sandy Bridge, 82 — Ivy Bridge, 83 — Other Platforms future generations. Qualcomm to Enter Into Contract with GlobalFoundries

Qualcomm, a world-known provider of chips for mobile gadgets, has entered into a contract with GlobalFoundries company with the intention to develop chips based on 28 nm technology. Such information has been voiced by an authoritative Chinese publication Commercial Times, referring to the reliable sources. It is presupposed that the manufacturer will start the first dispatches for Qualcomm in the end of this year. The previously voiced data claimed that Qualcomm had arranged orders of 28 nm chips from UMC with the similar dispatch dates.

The estimated reason for the cooperation with GlobalFoundries is the insufficient delivery of 28 nm chips by TSMC. Moreover, Nvidia is supposedly targeting at the cooperation with one more manufacturer except for the TSMC as well. It should be mentioned that the preliminary memorandum between Qualcomm and GlobalFoundries was concluded in 2010; according to this memorandum, the designer got the access towards 45 nm LP and 28 nm LP technological …

Enermax Platimax D.F. PSUs Hit the Market

Enermax launches a couple of platinum power supply units, earlier unveiled at the CeBIT 2016. The Platimax D.F. model is available in two versions – 500 W & 600 W – which boast 80Plus Platinum certificate thanks to 93% efficiency index. They are able to operate within 100-240 V voltage range at 10 A input. Featuring 150x160x86 mm dimensions, both PSUs can fit in any PC case.

Enermax Platimax D.F. units are furnished with a single +12V rail, estimated for 492/600 W power. At the same time the output power of +3.3 V & +5 V rails makes up 103 W. The hardware base includes high-quality Japanese capacitors as well as low-voltage DC-DC converters.

Cooling is secured by a single 139-mm fan based on Twister Bearing; it is thought to operate up to 160 thousand hours. The fan supports Dust Free Rotation technology that enables reverse rotation during the first 10 seconds.

The units employ SLEEMAX modular cabling. Each cable is coated in cloth to ensure the best management. …
