SilverStone Outs Strider Platinum Power Supply Units

SilverStone technology is about to launch three new PSUs which join Strider Platinum family. The ST55F-PT, ST65F-PT and ST75F-PT offer 550 W, 650 W and 750 W power correspondingly. The new-comers are housed in a classic black chassis, featuring 150x86x140 mm dimensions, and are based on Sirtec platform. The latter complies with ATX 12V 2.4 requirements. Moreover, all models boast 80Plus Platinum certificate, since their efficiency achieves 94% in 230V networks.

SilverStone Strider Platinum units feature an entirely modular design. Cooling is ensured thanks to a pre-installed 120-mm fan that rotates at 1500 RPM on 100% loading and at 1000 RPM on 70% loading. It produces not more than 18 dB noise and might operate trouble-free for some 100 thousand hours.

These PSUs come equipped with all-new safety options, including Active PFC, overvoltage, overloading, overheating, and short circuit safeguards. The list of integrated connectors embraces standard ATX, EPS 12V (4+4)-pin, a …

Asus to Start Shipping Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC Graphics Card

Next week Asus is going to start shipping its newest graphics card from Radeon R9 series. Codenamed Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC, it is based on an original PCB with black-and-red design and the incorporation of an exclusive DirectCU II cooling system. Plus, the availability of ‘OC’ in the codename implies the availability of factory overclocking.

Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC takes GCN Hawaii core with 2816 stream processors as the basis. It operates at an overclocked 1000 MHz frequency. The model is equipped with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory (512-bit bus) that runs at an effective 5400 MHz frequency. Just for a comparison, etalon adapter from AMD runs at 947 MHz/ 5000 MHz for GPU/memory correspondingly.

DirectCU II cooler consists of a heatsink, four copper nickel-plated heatpipes (two of them feature 10 mm dimensions), and two high-performance fans: one ordinary and one CoolTech. The card receives power via 6+8-pin connectors and might require not less than 600 W PSU.

Its GreenMax Plus PSU series is an evidence of the company’s versatile maturity. The series includes three models of 450W, 550W and 650W power. Let’s see what Gigabyte has to offer to all ‘high-fed’ by multiple products customers by the example of GreenMax Plus 550W (codename: GZ-EMS55A-C1) model.

General Features

The GreenMax Plus 550W is delivered in a handheld cardbox with a convenient holder. The unit itself is housed in a typical case with a black semi-gloss coating and a large ventilation grid. All basic specifications are marked on its side facet. The manufacturers claim the power of 504W (42A) for the +12VDC bus. Thereat, the correlation of power on the bus with the total power reaches the index of 0.916, which is considered to be an average benchmark for such type …
