Graphics Card Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 Super Overclock Review

The launch of graphics solutions with WindForce 5X cooling system stirred a real boom in the market, giving a special tribute to the products developed by Gigabyte. The company launched two adapters this summer with the implementation of WindForce 5X system and now introduces one more card on its basis. Model Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 Super Overclock can be called a paragon of efficient performance, overclocking and cooling activities.

Graphics card GeForce GTX 680 Super Overclock features 295x120x64 mm dimensions and rather unusual design. Instead of common fans on the frontal board Gigabyte covered PCB and elements of cooling system by a metallic cover with decorative holes; the rear board is also covered by a metallic plate. The top board is only partially covered by the lid that hides a line of five fans, while the bottom board unveils a voluminous heatsink with heatpipes. The implemented circuit board is originally designed with a reinforced power supply …

‘Mini-Mighty’ MSI Z97I Gaming AC Motherboard Review

Ever-increasing popularity of mini-ITX mainboards is accounted for the augmentation of small-sized PC systems, work- and multimedia stations, as well as gaming platforms. The latter lay down specific demands towards hardware base, requiring the combination of high performance, durability and price-efficiency. MSI is ready to satisfy those demands, by offering ‘mini, but mighty’ Z97I Gaming AC system board. Being a part of Intel Z97 chipset family, this tiny tot owns all ‘Gaming’ series facilities, despite compact dimensions. Let’s check them out.

Specs Overview

MSI Z97I Gaming AC is based on Intel Z97 chipset targeting Haswell-based CPUs for Socket LGA1150 platform (Celeron, Pentium, Core i3/i5/i7 series). The implemented PCB accommodates a pair of DIMM slots for DDR3 SDRAM modules (16 GB volume) with the clock frequencies from 1333 MHz to 3300 MHz. Expansion facilities are introduced by a single PCI-e 3.0 x16 slot with no backup from PCI slots. The board comes …

Intel to Take Care about Power-Efficiency of Ivy Bridge Processors

The rising competition between the two giants in the manufacture of processing units, Intel and AMD, makes each of the two invent ever newer technologies and implement them in their products. The attempts to dominate in the market and win as many consumers usually develop into brand new approaches and brand new advanced facilities.

In this light, Intel is going to upgrade its Ivy Bridge processors to make them more power-efficient. But power-efficiency does not imply that processing units will show less performance; quite the contrary, the manufacturer is willing to combine an utmost performance with the maximal power efficiency level.

Currently, the most power-saving processors of Ivy Bridge generation can be found in mobile devices on Windows platform and in Apple MacBook Air devices. Their TDP level is recorded at 17W. As appears from the above mentioned, the TDP level in upgraded Ivy Bridge processors will be lower than 17W, though the developers do not voice the margin …
