Intel Unveils Power-Saving Silvermont Architecture

Intel has just unveiled its new advanced working out: power-saving and high-efficient microarchitecture codenamed Silvermont. According to Intel, this architecture is primarily targeting devices with low power consumption and can embrace a vast production segment, starting from smartphones and finishing with datacenters. Silvermont is ready to demonstrate a threefold increase of performance and fivefold decrease of power consumption (with preservation of erstwhile efficiency), if compared with the current generation of Intel Atom cores.

Intel Silvermont has been elaborated in compliance with the norms of 22 nm technological process with the implementation of 3-D Tri-Gate transistors. The employment of new progressive techniques promotes for enhancing the operation speed and reducing energy demand of products which use Silvermont as the basis. Multi-core architecture with the support of up to eight cores ensures higher bandwidth, lower latency and more efficient operation on …

The Curved NEC MultiSync EX341R Monitor Is Equipped with a Presence Detector and a Light Sensor

A specialty by NEC Display Solutions Europe – a wide-format 34-inch MultiSync EX341R monitor – is intended for business people and financial experts.

Among key specifications of the device one should note a presence detector and a light sensor allowing to optimize setups according to current conditions. Ergonomic stand provides additional convenience and lets customize tilt, height and rotation.

Users can admire slim design and narrow bezels of this display with a 3440 × 1440 pixels SVA panel. The aspect ratio of the device is 21:9, the contrast factor is 3000:1, and brightness equals to 290 cd/m2. Viewing angles are claimed to be 178° horizontally and vertically. MultiSync EX341R offers the 5 msec response time, covers 99.5% of sRGB and 77.5% of NTSC colour gamuts.

The interface is represented by a DisplayPort 1.2, an HDMI 1.4 and an HDMI 2.0, as well as a USB 3.0 hub. Stereo speakers are built in.

The novelty from NEC will cost approximately 1,000 USD.

Solid-State Drive OCZ Agility 4 Review

Up-to-date SSD manufacturers are inclined to employ MLC flash-memory with synchronous interface in their product lines. The implementation of exactly such memory interface allows balancing the advanced performance with moderate price. This is especially vital for SSDs with SATA 3 6Gb/sec interface. Nevertheless, some producers take the challenge to implement flash-memory with asynchronous interface in their drives. As a result, the final products go at more attractive price but with more modest speed characteristics. OCZ dared to overcome this speed drawback by releasing SSD Agility 4 series. The models included in the series are based on asynchronous flash-memory interface and, according to the company's words, prove to show quite decent speed index.

Chief Peculiarities

Despite the prevalence of SandForce controllers implemented in SSDs, OCZ decided to use quite different platform for its new series. Agility 4 employs Indilinx Everest 2 controllers which, in some way, …
