NZXT Phantom 410 Enclosure Review

Computer enclosure segment currently outlives transformations, giving preference to minimization of dimensions and headlong eradication of huge clumsy casings. The developments in this sphere allowed manufacturers to deliver enclosures of mid-tower and small-tower form factor even for the creation of high-end systems. Hence, NZXT company, that previously attracted the public by full-tower gamers enclosure, has designed spacious midi-tower chassis Phantom 410. This model is distinguished by the possibility to install full-size components despite the compact dimensions.

Design and Delivery Kit

Phantom 410 enclosure is developed with original ideas in mind. Its rounded shape and extraordinary frontal part adds some refinement to the casing and attributes it to the gamers-type model. The color gamut will gladden consumers with any predilections as the spectrum involves black, red, white, gray, black-and-orange, and black-and-white. Such bright coloring touches only upon external design; all internal integration is of single coloring. Overall dimensions of this enclosure equal to 215x516x532 mm.

The nominal delivery kit of NZXT Phantom 410 consists of detailed user guidelines, screws kit (for motherboard, PSU and other devices fixture), screws with wide heads, long screws for fan fixture, hexagon stands for the motherboard, and plastic coupling for wires. All fixing elements are packed in boxes to facilitate the differentiation of the needful screws.

Integration

First of all, it should be mentioned that Phantom 410 is compatible with motherboards of mini-ATX, micro-ATX and ATX form-factor. Left-side plate has got a ventilation grid that facilitates the cooling process, and a site for a single 140 mm or 120 mm fan. Those fans are installed to provide for the efficient graphics adapter cooling down. Right above the grid one can find a transparent acrylic window. Right-side plate is absolutely blind.

The clipboard accommodates a plastic lid that is quite spacey. It covers three 5.25 inch bays which, in their turn, are covered by detachable plugs without any holes or anti-dust filters. The lower part of the frontal plate is dedicated for a ventilation grid; this grid facilitates the work of one 140 mm fan or a couple of 120 mm fans. Those fans are called to deliver airflow to the HDD bay.

All control elements are located at the top plate: a couple of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 sockets, audio outputs that support HD Audio standards, startup and reset buttons, and fan speed rotation switch. The rear part of the top plate has also got a ventilation grid which covers 140 mm fan. This fan owns the heat removal facilities and blows the hot air out. The user is able to install an additional 140 mm fan or change the available one to a couple of 120 mm items. This is also a place for the installation of water-cooling fin which dimensions can reach 240 mm.

The rear plate is considered to be standard for the enclosures with the lower PSU localization. It contains a sector for PSU installation, a hole for I/O motherboard plug, seven expansion cards slots, and a 120 mm fan. The bottom plate has got two grids: grid in the central part is a place for 120 mm fan, while the other grid is designated for the blow-in of cool air by PSU. Upon the whole, this enclosure is able to accommodate up to 8 fans.

Internal Framework

As it was mentioned above, PSU is located in the bottom part of the enclosure; it can be installed twofold, with the upper or lower localization of fan. The upper part of the inner spacing is dedicated to the motherboard. It is fixed to a particular tray by means of hexagonal stands and screws. Hard drives are accommodated in a special two-segment bay in the bottom part of the casing; those bays can involve two 3.5 inch drives or two 2.5 inch drives. In addition, it's feasible to install four more drives in the upper bay. The lower bay is non-detachable, while the upper one can be removed to give space for prolonged graphics cards.

NZXT Phantom 410 is notable for the efficient cable grooming. Thus, PSU cables can be hidden at the motherboard tray, leaving more space and promoting for better airflow.

Noise Level

The integrated controller enables the switch of nominal fan rotation speeds: High, Mid and Low. Thereby, when the switch is turned on Low mode, the noise level approximates 29 dB (the distance from the enclosure is 1 m); when the distance is shortened to 50 cm, the noise level proves to show 31 dB. Mid rotation speed results in 31 dB and 33 dB correspondingly; the maximal rotation speed results in 33 dB and 36 dB on different distances.
