PGS Chassis AeroCool Mechatron Review

The production of gaming-oriented chassis is evolving each year, despite the gradual escape from voluminous desktop platforms to more compact ones. Nowadays chassis targeting gamers present really high-end facilities and have catchy, aggressive design. AeroCool often gladdens this customer segment with high-quality and moderate in price products. Its recent development, chassis AeroCool Mechatron, is called to suffice the gamers' need for advanced options, reliability and convenience.

Design

Model AeroCool Mechatron belongs to PGS (Performance Gaming Series). It is developed in Middle-Tower form factor and boasts a futuristic design with sharp edges, ornamental ledges and underlined angles. The chassis is delivered in two color variations (black and white) and two framework variations (with side acrylic window or grid). The clipboard resembles the frontal part of the futuristic robot; it contains red LED line in the upper part, company's logo in the lower part, serial nameplate in the middle part, three 5.25 inch bays covered by plugs under the LED.

Nearly the whole surface of the top board takes a perforated grid. It allows for the installation of two fans (120 mm or 140 mm dimensions). The rest of the surface is intended for the external interfaces: CMOS button, integrated power supply indicator, drive activity indicator, 3.5 mm socket for headphones and microphone, and a couple of USB 2.0 sockets.

The left-side board might feature either acrylic window or a grid. It covers the spacing for the installation of a single 200 mm or two 120/140 mm fans. The right-side board is blind, while the rear board is not notable by any unusual elements. It contains three holes for the management of liquid cooling system. The bottom board is highly-ventilated and features a removable dust filter. The filter framework is made of plastic but might be solidly fixed. The other spacing is alloted for the integration of a single 120 mm or 140 mm fan.

Chassis AeroCool Mechatron is characterized by a rich delivery set which includes: screws for drives fixing (three screws for 5.25 inch drives, 16 screws for 2.5 inch drives and 20 screws for 3.5 inch drives, as well as motherboard fixture), plug for the clipboard, slides for 3.5 inch drives, PSU fixing frame, eight screws for fan fixture, and three stands for the motherboard installation.

Framework and Layout

Internal framework of AeroCool Mechatron is considered to be standard for the chassis with bottom PSU localization. This model is compatible with ATX, mini-ATX and mATX motherboards and CPU coolers of maximum 175 mm in height. The motherboard is fixed directly to the casing, but for the micro-ATX boards that need a few additional stands. The board's tray houses four rubbered perforations for efficient cable management. Frontal panel is easily removed thanks to the convenient fixing technology.

The casing features seven expansion slots with detachable plugs which house screws (with beaten heads). Power supply unit is tightly fixed due to a dedicated plate and two screws. The frontal panel hides 200 mm fan with red LED lighting; its maximal rotational speed approximates 750 rpm. There is a possibility to install here 120 mm or 140 mm fans as a substitute for a larger item. The top 120 mm fan is capable to develop the speed of up to 1200 rpm.

2.5 inch bay has got three conversion variations: 1) three 2.5 inch drives localization, 2) three 3.5 inch drives, on conditions when the plate is moved closer to the motherboard, and 3) any lengthy expansion plate, when removing the side wall of the bay. The bottom part of the casing also contains a bay for the hard drives. The slides, delivered together with the chassis, feature rubbered fixtures for 3.5 inch drives, while 2.5 inch drives are fixed by means of screws.

All clipboard wires are rather lengthy to be connected with the necessary components. USB 3.0 cable houses a socket for the internal connection with the motherboard and an integrated adapter for USB 2.0 version.
