Velox V55 and Slim S55: Two New SSD Series from Silicon Power

Silicon Power, a well-known developer of flash-memory drives, as well as HHD and DRAM, has replenished its inventory with two new SSD series, codenamed Velox V55 and Slim S55. All the models included into the lineups are traditionally designed in 2.5-inch form-factor. Both series will be represented in the market by three models of 60 GB, 120 GB and 240 GB capacity. Their major advantage over rival products lies in acceleration of all operations connected with upload, speed boosting and general performance. Therefore, these SSDs are just perfect for ‘highly-demanding’ users.

Velox V55 solid-state drives are housed in resistant cases made of polished aluminum. All three models feature identical dimensions: 100x70x9 mm and weigh 79 g. The drives are based on SandForce controller and employ SATA III (6 Gb/sec) interface. The maximal sequential speed index claimed by the developer approximates 550 Mb/sec on reading operations and 470 Mb/sec on writing operations. Velox V55 products are thought to support such technologies, as RAID, NCQ, TRIM, and ECC. One more thing to allude about the series is the availability (in a delivery set) of a dedicated adapter for the installation of 2.5-inch drives into 3.5-inch drive bay.

Slim S55 is primarily targeting ultra-slim laptops and contemporary ultrabooks, due to lighter dimensions and slim design. Similarly to Velox V55, these drives employ SATA III interface that provides for up to 6 Gb/sec bandwidth. Their speed characteristics look the following way: the maximal sequential reading speed equals to 550 Mb/sec, while the maximal sequential writing speed – 440 Mb/sec. In regard to the supported technologies, Slim S55 drives support NCQ, TRIM, ECC, Garbage Collection, and S.M.A.R.T. One of the most peculiar features ascribed to this series is that all the models are considered to have vibration-proof and shock-proof properties.

Upon the whole, both SSD series are power-efficient and low-noise solutions. Their chief pre-eminence is seen in high data transfer speeds, improved monitoring and storage facilities. In order to certify the products’ durability Silicon Power equips all models with a 3-year limited warranty.
