Cryorig Readies a Pair of Uncanny Ola & Taku Chassis

Cryorig, a renowned designer of CPU coolers & fans, decided to expand its expertise by developing a couple of one-off PC chassis – the Ola and the Taku. Both greenhorns are differentiated by an extraordinary design, a far cry from traditional tower-cases. They are thought to support mini-ITX motherboards and come with a pair of drive bays (2.5-/3.5-inch). The models will be promulgated within the framework of the Computex 2016.



Presumably, Cryorig Ola’s cylindrical case features 378.5x226x205 mm dimensions. Cryorig Taku positions itself as a monitor stand, featuring 567x270x134.8 mm dimensions. Their internal layout allows for the installation of SFX power supply units (130-mm long) as well as 280/240-mm long videocards. The permissible height of the CPU cooler makes up 82 mm & 42 mm correspondingly.

Promising Speed Forecasts for AMD Radeon 8000 Sea Islands

AMD is continuing its work on the new GPU generation codenamed ‘Sea Islands’. The new series is prognosticated to be released in the coming winter. All the products with this GPU will be branded Radeon 8000. AMD manufacturers claim that their new graphic processing units will be 40% more efficient due to the implemented advanced technologies. There is not so much news about the future GPU architecture, although cardinal changes are barely possible.



Sea Islands chips will be equipped with 5.1 billion transistors as compared with the current 4.3 billion items applied in the products. This augmentation will facilitate the increment of efficiency. IBM, Intel, AMD, Cray, HPE and NVIDIA Have Been Awarded a Grant for Exaflop Supercomputer Development

The most effective supercomputer is launched in China today. The system, called Sunway TaihuLight, operates locally developed processors. The ultimate Sunway TaihuLight productivity is 125 petaflops. In 2020 China plans to generate the first system in the world with a capacity overcoming one exaflops. At present the USA stays behind, however American supercomputers’ energy performance is significantly higher.



The US Department of Energy has established a $258 million grant for cost effective exaflop supermachines construction. Six American companies (IBM, Intel, AMD, Cray, HPE and NVIDIA) won it. Now they are to create an architecture, able to consume 25–30 MW at one exaflop productiveness. Such a system’s deployment is to take place in 2021. Apart from funds committed, each member company of the Exascale Computing Project program will put up its own means, constituting around 40% of DOE’s funds.
