The model MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming is going to answer the demands of gamers and enthusiasts. It has an 18-phase power system for the processor socket and it is almost a complete copy of its predecessor — the Z270 Godlike Gaming. The novelty is equipped with four PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, one PCI-E 3.0 x1, three M.2 connectors, six 6 Gbps SATA ports, and a U.2 connector. In addition, two NVMe M.2 drives can be placed on the supplied expansion card.

Packaging

Being a top product, MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming is packed more interesting than the budgetary colleagues. On the front, traditionally, the motherboard and its name are partially shown, and in the lower left corner, compatibility with the eighth generation processors and the chipset logo are indicated. The front part of the box is equipped with a folding «door» and on one of its sides you can get acquainted with the key features; and on the other hand in the box there is a «window» so that the buyer can evaluate the appearance of the motherboard.

Inside the box, the board is wrapped in a separate cardboard pallet, which is closed from the main box by a plastic cover, it was made for avoiding damages during the transportation.

The Z370 Godlike Gaming installation kit includes a driver disc, six SATA cables (four short, two long, three with a single 90° end), an I/O shield with two additional decorative covers, a USB expander connection cable, three cable-mounted thermistors, an RGB lighting Y-cable, an HB-SLI bridge, two Wi-Fi antennas, an internal USB 2.0 hub (labeled Xpander) with adhesive-backed Velcro mounting tape, an RGB strip, MSI’s Xpander-Z M.2 adapter, a case badge, and a large pile of documentation including cable label stickers.

Closer View

Based on its ability to support four-way CrossFireX with a graphics card in the bottom slot, XL-ATX become the safest case for the given mothercard. From the other side, that fourth slot shares PCIe pathways with a great amount of other devices that are not desirable to use. Among the Z370 Godlike Gaming’s premiere features, Killer x Tend requires all three network controllers.

In the case of adding the Killer Wi-Fi, you’ll get the opportunity of using the on-board components as a network switch and access point in addition to the normal Killer features of packet and bandwidth prioritization. The label “xTend” pays a tribute to the typical remote placement and cable connection of a gaming PC, as the additional access point overcomes the necessity of a range extender.

The Z370 Godlike Gaming mothercard has a button for entering into the UEFI interface, a button to retry after a boot hang, a code display, a row of voltage detection points, power and reset buttons, a “Game Boost” knob with seven overclock configurations.

The M.2 Xpander-Z supports two M.2 drives using eight PCIe lanes. For optimal performance (and to support both modules), we’d recommend using it only in the third x16-length slot, and only with a single graphics card.

Special features

Like many other boards of this class, the Z370 Godlike Gaming is equipped with a POST indicator, a wireless Wi-Fi 802.11ac adapter, and a set of RGB LEDs located in various locations of the PCB.

In the Mystic Light, the LEDs are configured. According to the standards, they can be synchronized or set the type of glow and color separately. And the user can also choose one of 14 effects. The program allows you to configure them through the phone, or compose complex sequences yourself, and through connecting to the chain of events and external RGB tapes. In general, the level of creativity is up to you.

RGB LEDs are divided into groups. The first group is the lighting in the area of the food system. The second group is vertical on the left side of the printed circuit board, the third is on the right side. The last group is the highlight of the chipset. Turning the backlight on and off is still possible only in a special program in the OS. There is no possibility to activate or turn off the backlight in the BIOS so far; perhaps MSI will add this menu item in the future.

Conclusion

If to talk about the pros of the given motherboard, they, of course, exceed the disadvantages. So, among strong sides are:

+Triple Gigabit Ethernet Plus Wi-Fi Support Killer xTend Technology
+High-end audio pathway to ¼” I/O-panel headphone jack
+Triple CPU-fed PCIe slots
+Triple M.2, plus U.2
+Contains PCIe to dual M.2 adapter
+Contains Rainbow RGB strip
+Contains internal, and-on USB front-panel hub
+Contains three thermistor leads for temperature monitoring of offboard devices
+Contains both standard and short SATA cables

CONS
-Shared pathways prevent from using several features at the same time
-PCIe x8 and PCIe x4 are absent
-Video Ports are absent
-DDL/DTS Connect is absent
-Legacy Interfaces are absent
-Very expensive (but not for everybody is a con) — $499
