EVGA CLC 280 – Review of the Liquid Cool Perfection

Introduction
CLC means Closed Loop CPU Cooler. The given model is available in several variations. Today we are talking about EVGA CLC 280, but still we will notice some differences between bigger and younger brother.
The price differs greatly between the two models. The CLC 120 can be purchased for 99.90 euros, and the price of CLC 280 is 149,90 euros. Coolers belong to expensive models. But EVGA promises a sufficient amount of privilege for this price: high cooling performance, low noise level, efficient software and synchronization of the backlight with EVGA GeForce GTX video cards.

Packaging and Installation
A cooler is delivered in a cardboard box, in which the NWO is placed in a special foam material that protects the device from all possible damages. All accessories are laid out on plastic bags, signed and the user will have no problems with the searching the needed item.
The block is already coated with thermal paste, protected by a plastic film, which must be removed before the installation. The bundled USB cable is joined to the internal connector on the motherboard and allows you to control the pump and the illumination of the logo on the body of the water block.

The installation of the water block is more than simple, and it can be done without dismantling the motherboard from the case. Make sure that the back cover has access to the near-sockets space on the back of the motherboard. It is necessary for the installation of the plastic frame into which the bushings are screwed.

The water block itself is screwed with four nuts with knurled heads, so the tool will not be needed. The radiator is placed in the corresponding place in the housing.
The size of the water block should not interfere with the nearby components, for example, memory modules, cooling radiators for power circuits, etc. When connecting a USB cable, a choice of several colors is available to illuminate the logo.

Closer View
Models EVGA EVOs differ not only in the size of the radiators and the configuration of the fans, they are oriented to totally different scenarios. The smaller model - CLC 120 can be installed in small form factor (SFF) systems with compact dimensions. There is a good place for the mounting a 120 mm heat exchanger so it fits perfectly. The CLC 280, on the other hand, promises a much higher cooling performance with a significant heat exchange area.

The structure of both air heaters includes new fans which blade shape is optimized to reduce noise while maintaining high performance. The fans use Teflon sliding bearings that ensure a long lifespan.

The design of the CLC 280 includes a radiator of 312x139x27 mm with two fans of a size 140 mm rotating at a speed of 600-2200 rpm.

The speed of rotation and other parameters can be changed in the program EVGA CLC Liquid Cooler, which the manufacturer promises to release in the near future.

The model itself can hardly be called an original development, it was built on the basis of Asetek Gen5 often used by other manufacturers. However, the feature is a recycled board, which allowed to equip the cooler with RGB-backlight (without bulbs now is not life). More recently, the same thing has been done by NZXT on its own Kraken. Located on the case mini-USB allows you to control the illumination, and at the same time and pomp.

The backlight settings can be synchronized with the backlight settings of the compatible 3D EVGA card.

Special standoffs fit the integrated support plate of LGA 2011 through 2066 interfaces, and a different set of standoffs replace the clip bracket of legacy AMD boards, if the support plate behind the board has the standard threads or nuts. LGA 115x users get the luxury of attaching the EVGA-supplied support bracket to the back of their boards, using yet another set of standoffs at the front of the board.

EVGA’s CLC 280 combines reliable technology with high-speed fans to produce the ultimate-cooling 2x140mm system.
