Two New Pocket-Size External Drives from HGST

HGST, a company that has been acquired by Western Digital, is going to gladden its devotees by a couple of external drives, codenamed G-Technology G-Drive mini and G-Technology G-RAID mini. Both models are characterized by a pocket-size design and distinguish themselves as the world's first serial devices employing 2.5-inch hard drive with the total of 1TB capacity. This is, indeed, an incredible property that can't be currently beaten by any rival product. Besides, the spindle implemented in the hard drive develops the speed of 7200 RPM.

Model G-Technology G-RAID mini features 149x83x38 mm dimensions and contains two hard drives of 2.5-inch standard. Each of the drives goes with 1TB capacity (the total capacity is 2TB). The implementation of Oxford 936 controller enables the possibility to organize RAID 0 and RAID 1 array configurations. The inventory of the device boasts the availability of eSATA 3Gb/sec port, USB 2.0 port and FireWire 800 x2 port. This external drive is equipped with an active-type cooling system that involves a single fan.

Model G-Technology G-Drive mini features 125x81x22 mm dimensions and is able to develop the speed up to 136 Mb/sec. It supports FireWire 800 and USB 3.0 interfaces and provides the corresponding cables in the nominal packaging. Unlike its companion, this drive is equipped with a passive cooling system.

Price wise, G-Technology G-RAID will be delivered at about $450, while G-Technology G-Drive will not exceed the margin of $200. The supplier promises to release these two products already the current quarter.
