Asus ROG Strix XG32V – New Curved Gaming Dreamboat

Foreword
Borrowing of the technologies is a common practice among manufacturers of components and peripherals.

Samsung created new monitors with SVA-panels. However, the manufacturer behaves in an intelligent way: first releases its own product and only after some time (about half a year) provides an opportunity to purchase matrices for the needs of other companies. Asus took a chance and bought the technology increasing its range of gaming monitors widely.

One of the new monitors is the 31.5-inch ROG Strix XG32VQ standard WQHD with a scan rate of 144 Hz. What can be said about it?

Talking about…
Of course, manufacturers are trying to highlight their products among the rest with something special. ASUS chose the path, which is very typical for modern gaming products. In the case of the ROG Strix XG35VQ, the proprietary illumination of ASUS Aura Sync is used. Thus, the monitor backlight can be synchronized with other ASUS devices.

Externally, ASUS XG32VQ resembles other novelties from the ROG Strix XG series and differs from them only in the size of the case. The manufacturer offers its own vision of the "frameless" design of the case. It distinguishes with thin plastic overlays on the area of the thin internal frame of the screen.

The ergonomic novelty stand provides three degrees of movements for adjusting the body position. Due to the use of the curved panel against the possibility of a coup (Pivot), the manufacturer decided to refuse, and this is the right solution.

The whole potential of the monitor, as the manufacturer claims, can be revealed with the installed ports DP 1.2 (one full-size and one mini) and modern HDMI 2.0, which can also ensure the performance of AMD FreeSync. To connect peripherals to the XG32VQ, there are two USB 3.0 ports and a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones or an external speaker system. The built-in stereo system does not have a monitor – it’s a common decision for Asus.

In XG32VQ, Game Visual mode is preset and additional Blue Light Filter helps to reduce the blue component of the spectrum. The Game Plus function serves to display the sight, the timer and the frame counter.

Design
The monitor arrives in a huge black box. As usual on its surface you can find a couple of the images and a list of main characteristics of the device.

The pack includes the following items:

+A power cable;
+An external power supply;
+A DisplayPort cable → mini DP;
+A HDMI cable;
+An USB cable for connection to PC;
+A short guide for installation and configuration;
+A CD with user manual, drivers and software;
+ASUS VIP Member;
+Additional plastic inserts for the Light Signature system.

Complicated plexus of forms, different textures and colors, plastic – all these things instantly create an image of an expensive and niche product, aimed primarily at the gaming audience.

The Light Signature illumination system lights the ROG logo with a red light, applied to the plastic circle at the bottom of the central column. The light is not very bright.

Besides this, the creators equipped the monitor with a synchronized AURA RGB system located on the rear surface in the area of mounting the central rack to the display case. The description of the technology sounds nice, but there is one question: who can see this beauty on the back of the monitor?

The ergonomics of the stand provides height adjustment within 100 mm, tilt in the range from -5 to +20 degrees and turn the case 50 degrees to the right / left. The rotation in portrait mode (Pivot) in XG32VQ, as we have already mentioned, is absent due to the use of a curved matrix.

The base of the stand and all internal fasteners are made of metal. Three rubber feet are used for better rigidity.

The matrix is here with a semi-matte working surface. It has sufficient anti-glare properties and has almost imperceptible crystalline effect.

The panel with the curvature (radius of curvature) 1800R has very little effect on the perception of the picture from the screen.

The monitor is controlled by a five-positions joystick and four distinct trapezoidal physical buttons located at the rear of the device. On the lower side there is a soft white power LED, which, if desired, can be turned off via the settings.
