Motherboard ASRock Z77 OC Formula Review
The variety of motherboards designed by ASRock is able to satisfy the whims of any customer group. All models are characterized by multiple useful facilities and different price ranges. This makes ASRock products a universal means for PC integration. These days the company has proudly released a dedicated motherboard, codenamed Z77 OC Formula, developed specifically for overclockers. This is the first model of this manufacturer designed particularly with overclocking facilities in mind.
Design and Integration
At first sight, motherboard ASRock Z77 OC Formula does not distinguish itself by exceptional design and layout. However, more intense look will uncover a range of peculiarities pertained specifically to this product. This motherboard is designed in CEB form-factor, since the number of integrated facilities would be scant for ATX standard. Still, fixing holes are located similarly to ATX boards, so there won't be any difficulties during its installation.
It should be mentioned that digital power supply converter 'Digi Power' operates under 12+4 scheme and houses only high-quality components, such as Premium Alloy Choke throttles, Dual-Stack Mosfet transistors, and Multiple Filter Cap capacitors. CPU employs a couple of ATX12V sockets (one — 8-contact and the other one – 4-contact) as power supply means. Power supply stabilizer is covered by solid heatsinks with screw fixture; G-like amplifying plate provides for efficient heat dissipation on the rear part of the board. Additional cooling effect is realized by 40 mm fan and a brand Twin-Power Cooling system.
The printed circuit board consists of eight layers with dual copper conductors. Memory modules are capable to accommodate up to 32GB RAM of DDR3 type. Acceptable memory frequencies fluctuate between 1066 MHz up to 3000 MHz. Intel Z77 Express logics supplies the motherboard with four SATA 3 Gb/sec ports and a couple of SATA 6 Gb/sec ports. Two additional controllers Marvell 88SE9172 provide two more sockets each, increasing the overall amount of SATA 6 Gb/sec ports to 6 items. Two PCI Express 2.0 and 3.0 x16 slots promote for the creation of different graphics configurations by means of Nvidia SLI or AMD CrossFireX technologies. There are also PCI-e 2.0 x16 and PCI-e x1 slots on the board.
The motherboard houses a few useful buttons and keys, including Clear CMOS button, V-Probe voltage control, POST-codes indicator, Reset button, and two buttons Rapid OC. The rear panel of the board is equipped with a set of interfaces: HDMI socket, PS/2 slot for peripheral devices, optical S/PDIF, five audio slots (based on Realtek ALC898 controller), IEEE1392 FireWire port (based on VIA VT6315N controller), local network socket, six USB 3.0 ports, and four USB 2.0 ports.
BIOS
UEFI BIOS implemented in ASRock Z77 OC Formula has got a bit different template than standard BIOS framework. Instead of 'Main' section, the first thing a customer sees is 'OC Tweaker' section dedicated to the basic settings and overclocking options. The top part of the section is intended for profile settings and working modes, further on, the customer will find CPU and memory parameters settings, and finally, voltage alteration options. Subsection 'User OC Profile' ensures the storing of ten user BIOS profiles; this exceeds the permissible number of stored profiles in other motherboards at 7 items.
New section 'Tool' contains as familiar, so new technologies and settings. Thus, 'Dehumidifier Function' saves the system from start-up refusal triggered by heightened humidity inside the chassis. 'Instant Flash' applet upgrades the firmware by means of analyzing the connected USB-drive. 'H/W Monitor' monitors temperature conditions, voltage index and fan rotational speeds. 'Multi Thermal Sensor' technology, implying a large number of additional sensors, allows identifying and controlling temperature conditions in different parts of the motherboard.

Motherboard ASRock Z77 OC Formula is delivered along with a spectrum of brand applets, applications and technologies. One can find Instant Boot, Xfast LAN and Xfast USB applets, Formula Drive application, MAGIX Multimedia Suit program, and a few other standard soft items.
