LG 34UC79G – The First-Born Gaming Monitor of LG

Introduction
Until recently, LG did not release monitors (and other devices) with an orientation on the gamer audience. In LG models of monitors there were already some developments, technologies and modes for games, but in general they were universal monitors. Now the Korean company has a whole line of gaming monitors, one of the most «stuffed» — LG 34UC79G. The monitor is filled with various technologies and functions, which make the game process as comfortable as possible. Among them: Motion Blur Reduction, Black Stabilizer, Dynamic Action Sync, AMD FreeSync and digital sight, we'll talk about them in detail later. There are modern interfaces HDMI version 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2, plus a USB hub and audio outputs for speakers and headphones.

Closer View
The monitor is designed specifically for the gamer audience. This model has aggressive outlines of the body elements, a combination of black and red, a 21: 9 aspect ratio and a curved shape which provides a wider viewing angle.

The monitor uses the so-called frameless CINEMA Screen design. The side and top frames create a single plane with the screen itself, from the bottom you will find a black bar with the LG logo.

The radius of curve of the monitor is 3.8 m, so, it is not as curved as the most expensive models, but the curvature is very noticeable in comparison with standard models.

The back panel is made of black plastic and combines matte and glossy surfaces with red accents.

The leg is made of glossy black plastic with a red matte strip in the middle.

Stand ArcLine is made of black matte metal with red inserts. Unlike the supports in conventional models, it has a swept, rather than a rounded shape. The stand is massive, which allows the monitor to stand confidently.
Control is made by a five-button joystick with a built-in LED. It is traditionally for LG monitors.
The design allows you to adjust the height of the monitor, tilt in two planes. The stand allows you to adjust the height of the monitor in the range of 120 mm.

The angle of the LG 34UC79G is adjustable within -5º (forward) ~ 20º (backward)

All connectors are located on the rear panel. There is one full-size DisplayPort 1.2, two HDMI 2.0, a hub with two USB 3.0, headphone output, a line audio output for acoustics (no built-in speakers) and a power adapter connector. The kit includes two cables: DisplayPort and HDMI.

Another interesting and useful feature of the design is a special mount for the mouse wire. It is removable and can be installed both on the right and on the left.
Design LG 34UC79G corresponds to its positioning of the game premium monitor. The model combines aggressive design, black and red colors, additional useful chips, such as a clip for the mouse cable, and excellent build quality.

Almost all control is carried out using the joystick at the bottom of the monitor. The entire control scheme is similar and simple to understand.

At the first click, the Quick Circle menu appears on the screen with the ability to go into gaming mode, select a signal source, turn off the monitor and go to the full settings menu. In the game mode settings, you can select one of the predefined sets, adjust the black stabilizer, enable FreeSync, 1 ms Motion Blur Reduction, and response time. All the rest can be adjusted in the full settings menu.

The monitor uses the AH-IPS matrix of its own production with a resolution of 2560x1080 pixels. At first glance, it may seem that this is not enough for a diagonal of 34 inches. In fact, individual pixels can be seen only by viewing the screen from a very close distance. Moreover, in this case, this resolution can be considered a plus: the maximum frequency of the monitor's scan is 144 Hz and at a higher resolution (for example, 3440x1440) a top-end video card is required to obtain the required FPS in games. In fact, the picture is very nice, the viewing angles are typical for IPS (that is, the maximum), and the 21: 9 format gives not only a wider viewing angle in games, but also allows you to work comfortably with applications in multi-window mode.

Conclusion

LG's game debut in the form of a 34UC79G monitor can be called very successful. The Korean manufacturer did not make serious mistakes. Of course, we do not get the highest native resolution, but it gives its advantages. Many users will prefer a monitor with a higher resolution for work, but for gamers it is more important to have a high refresh rate and a lower load on the video card. Still, the 34-inch monitor is sold at a very attractive price, and it will interest not only gamers. So LG 34UC79G –is a successful attempt by the Korean manufacturer to enter the market of quality gaming monitors.
